[Beauty and the Beast: with Five Set Scenes & Nine Trick Changes, Home Pantomime Toy Books]

Description: Photographs of "Beauty and the Beast" from the Home Pantomime Toy Books series by Dean & Sons, held by UNT Special Collections. The cover of the book has the words "Home Pantomime Toy Book" at the top, the second word is red and the rest baby blue. Most of the page is an illustration of a clown, with an officer to its left and a woman behind him with a man in a color outfit by him, and someone laying under the white orb the clown is sitting on. In the orb is the book title in orange/red. The bottom of the cover has a further description of the books contents that says "Five Set Scenes & Nine Trick Changes." The illustration is of an audience watching a play inside of a theater, the set they are watching of giant tree trunks with faces, a man in a yellow an orange suit and black hat pointing at them. [Pictures to Please You]

Description: Photographs of Clifton Bingham's "Pictures to Please You" with illustrations designed by Ernest Nister, held by UNT Special Collections. Book preservation technologies

Description: This assessment analyzes the problem of acid deterioration of books and the program underway at the Library of Congress. The program at the Library involves the chemical treatment of books in a unique and effective process that, however, also presents some new engineering and safety concerns. Because of these concerns, the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations requested this independent review of the Library’s system and other available or potential processes.

[The Wizard of Oz]

An Experimental Study on the Reading of Comics

Description: It is the purpose of this study to (1) determine the history and status of the comic book; (2) to find out how many and what kinds of comic books two groups of fourth graders of the Perryton school are reading; (3) to set up a well-planned reading program in one of these groups; (4) to compare the amount and kinds of comic books read by the two groups at the end of the experimental period.

[Manuscript Leaf 15th Century, Northern Netherlands]

Description: 15th-century Book of Hours originating from the Nothern Netherlands [Utrecht], ca. 1430s. Dutch text from the Long Hours of the Cross displayed in single column, 19 lines, gothic book hand. Rubrics in red, capitals struck with red, eight one-line initials in red or blue, verso with one three-line initial in burnished gold embellished with red penwork and extensions' full border composed of a vertical bar border of burnished gold and blue with white tracery, the bars with hairline stems emanating from each end and spreading across the top and bottom and along the fore-edge margin, these vines bearing burnished gold trefoils, delicate daisies, and pink and green buds, with the text opened by a 10-line initial "H" in highly burnished gold on a pink and blue ground with white tracery, in the center of the initial a draped flowering vine.
