The Use of Concepts of Income Determination by Members of the Agricultural Sector of the Plains Area of Texas

Description: The problem with which this study is concerned is that of determining income concepts employed by members of the agricultural sector to determine change in equity of the owner of an entity. A secondary purpose was an investigation of the factors which influenced the decision model selected to determine income. Major findings of the study indicated that financial data is used differently by members of the sector and the accountant. Respondents did not agree among themselves about the information… more

Depreciation shortfall and real financial performance in the steel industry, 1965-1974

Description: The purpose of this study was to revise the industry's reported depreciation allowances to a current replacement cost basis; to measure the industry's real profits and profitability; to assess the relationships between depreciation shortfall and real financial performance; and to evaluate the implications of depreciation shortfall for the steel industry.

Design information questionnaire for a model mixed oxide fuel fabrication facility. [IAEA form]

Description: The model fuel plant is based on the proposed Westinghouse Anderson, S.C., plant and is typical of plants that will be constructed and operated in 1980 to 1990. A number of plant systems and procedures are uncertain, and in these cases judgment was used in describing relevant parameters in order to provide a complete model on which to design an inspection plan. The model plant does not, therefore, strictly represent any planned facility nor does it strictly represent the ideas of Westinghouse o… more

Effects of measurement errors on linear calibration equations

Description: This report summarizes the results of the developmental work in the area of statistical treatment of calibration data performed in the preparation of American National Standard N15.19. The effects of measurement errors in both the dependent and independent variables in linear calibrations are studied by examining (1) a simulation model in which the lack of fit was zero with assigned known values of the measurement errors, (2) data from a laboratory calibration of a process vessel where the meas… more

MHSS: a material handling system simulator

Description: A Material Handling System Simulator (MHSS) program is described that provides specialized functional blocks for modeling and simulation of nuclear material handling systems. Models of nuclear fuel fabrication plants may be built using functional blocks that simulate material receiving, storage, transport, inventory, processing, and shipping operations as well as the control and reporting tasks of operators or on-line computers. Blocks are also provided that allow the user to observe and gather… more

Estimates and sampling schemes for the instrumentation of accountability systems

Description: The problem of estimation of a physical quantity from a set of measurements is considered, where the measurements are made on samples with a hierarchical error structure, and where within-groups error variances may vary from group to group at each level of the structure; minimum mean squared-error estimators are developed, and the case where the physical quantity is a random variable with known prior mean and variance is included. Estimators for the error variances are also given, and optimizat… more

MO200: a model for evaluation safeguards through material accountability for a 200 tonne per year mixed-oxide fuel-rod fabrication plant

Description: M0200, a computer simulation model, was used to investigate the safeguarding of plutonium dioxide. The computer program operating the model was constructed so that replicate runs could provide data for statistical analysis of the distributions of the randomized variables. The plant model was divided into material balance areas associated with definable unit processes. Indicators of plant operations studied were modified end-of-shift material balances, end-of-blend errors formed by closing mater… more

Comparison of several Kalman filter models for establishing MUF

Description: Detection of MUF in a material balance area is a problem in nuclear material control. It has been shown that the Kalman filter can detect a MUF in situations which could not be detected by the traditional control chart approach using LEMUF. The Kalman filter is extended in this paper to cover two additional scenarios: (1) the case where a random quantity with a mean of M(t) is removed per period, and (2) the case where MUF is a fraction of the on-hand inventory each period. The Kalman filter is… more

Efficient Energy Use and Well-Being: The Swedish Example

Description: A detailed comparison is made between the per capita energy consumption in the US and Sweden. Sweden uses between 55% and 65% of the per capita energy (depending on the way hydro-electricity is counted) at essentially the same per capita income. It is shown that this difference arises both from differences in the mix of economic activities and from the differences in the energy consumption per unit output of these activities. The most important contributions to the differences in energy use ari… more
