Biotelemetry study of spring and summer habitat selection by striped bass in Cherokee Reservoir, Tennessee, 1978. [Morone saxatilis]

Description: Habitat selection of 31 adult striped bass was monitored by temperature sensing ultrasonic and radio transmitters in Cherokee Reservoir, Tennessee, from March through October 1978. This study sought to corroborate summer data obtained by Waddle (1979) in 1977 and to examine mechanisms of habitat selection by observing establishment of the summer distribution. Modeling of coupled geochemical and transport processes: An overview

Description: Early coupled models associated with fluid flow and solute transport have been limited by assumed conditions of constant temperature, fully saturated fluid flow, and constant pore fluid velocity. Developments including coupling of chemical reactions to variable fields of temperature and fluid flow have generated new requirements for experimental data. Notes on Luminosity Variation at ISABELLE

Description: In the present ISABELLE design, the luminosity at each insertion will be the same, unless special efforts are taken to get a low-..beta.. insertion or reduced crossing angle. These can only change the luminosity by factors of 2 to 4 from insertion to insertion. An estimation of the range of desired luminosities is given.

Combustion of oil on water: an experimental program

Description: This study determined how well crude and fuel oils burn on water. Variations in volatiles in magma bodies based on studies of melt inclusions

Description: Knowledge of volatile concentrations in magmas are important in the prediction of explosive volcanism, and contribute to the understanding of the carbon dioxide budget of the atmosphere. Some important variables that are controlled by volatiles are: crystallization temperature of phases, composition of liquids minimum, and viscosity. Volatiles are also catalysts for reactions.

Dynamic Simulation of Multi-Pass Pressurized Water Nuclear Power Plants by Analog Computer Techniques

Description: A kinetic model of the primary loop of a multi-pass pressurized water reactor power plant is developed to evaluate, by analog computer techniques, the transient response characteristics under conditions of steam generator load and reactor control rod perturbations. Using the 2-pass 28 Mw(t) SM-2 reactor as a typical plant, transient behavior patterns are illustrated and examined for a variety of load inputs, variations in plant constants, and analog model simplifications. Bird associations with shrubsteppe plant communities at the proposed reference repository location in southeastern Washington

Effects of capillary heterogeneity on vapor-liquid counterflow in porous media

Description: Based on a continuum description, the effect of capillary heterogeneity, induced by variation in permeability, on the steady state, countercurrent, vapor-liquid flow in porous media is analyzed.
