Search for Popcorn Mesons in Events with Two Charmed Baryons

Description: The physics of this note is divided into two parts. The first part measures the {Lambda}{sub c} {yields} {pi}kp continuum momentum spectrum at a center of mass energy of 10.54 GeV/c. The data sample consists of 15,400 {Lambda}{sub c} baryons from 9.46 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity. With more than 13 times more data than the best previous measurement, we are able to exclude some of the simpler, one parameter fragmentation functions. In the second part, we add the {Lambda}{sub c} {yields} K… more

Search for fast particles produced at large lab angles at NAL

Description: An experiment is proposed to look for charged particles emitted at large lab angles that are normally forbidden kinematically. These particles if found would correspond to hitherto unobserved events such as the production of particles with imaginary mass values (''tachyons''). Also, they wish to look for fractionally-charged particles produced at these angles. These particles, if found, would correspond to strongly-bound quark-quark states formed in a dissociation of the target nucleon. The det… more

Underlying event studies at ATLAS and CDF

Description: Improving our understanding and modeling of the underlying event in high energy collider environment is important for more precise measurements at the LHC. CDF Run II data for the underlying event associated with Drell-Yan lepton pair production and early ATLAS data measuring underlying event activity with respect to the leading transverse momentum track are presented. The data are compared with several QCD Monte Carlo models. It is seen that no current standard Monte Carlo tune adequately desc… more

Search for lepton flavor violating decay τ- →ℓ-ℓ+ℓ-ℓ = e, μ at BaBar

Description: The Standard Model (SM) is one of the most tested and verified physical theories of all time, present experimental observations are consistent with SM expectations. On the other hand SM can not explain many physical observations: the cosmological observations possibly infer the presence of dark matter which is clearly beyond the SM expectations; the SM Higgs model, while explaining the generation of fermion masses, can not explain the hierarchy problem and a non natural fine tuning of SM is nee… more

Measurement of d sigma/dy of Drell-Yan e+ e- pairs in the Z Mass Region from p anti-p Collisions at s88(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: We report on a CDF measurement of the total cross section and rapidity distribution, d{sigma}/dy, for q{bar q} {yields} {gamma}*/Z {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -} events in the Z boson mass region (66 < M{sub ee} < 116 GeV/c{sup 2}) produced in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV with 2.1 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity. The measured cross section of 256 {+-} 16 pb and d{sigma}/dy distribution are compared with Next-to-Leading-Order and Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order QCD theory pred… more

High q^2 QCD physics at the Tevatron

Description: Results in QCD physics at the Tevatron from the D0 and CDF collaborations are presented, including results in jet production, photon production, W/Z bosons plus jets, and heavy-flavor jets. The importance of these topics in tuning Monte-Carlo simulations, constraining the parton distribution functions, and measuring cross sections of QCD processes which contribute significant backgrounds to searches for new and important physics is discussed.

D0 results on three-jet production, multijet cross-section ratios, and minimum bias angular correlations

Description: We report the measurement of the cross-section for three-jet production and the ratio of inclusive three-jet to two-jet cross-sections, as well as a study of angular correlations in minimum bias events, based on data taken with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. The differential inclusive three-jet cross section as a function of the invariant three-jetmass (M{sub 3jet}) is measured in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV using a data set corresponding… more
