What can HELIOS tell us on phase transition of nuclear matter

Description: Transverse energy (E/sub t/) distributions and P/sub t/ spectra of negative particles and photons measured by the HELIOS experiment in 200 GeVN and 60 GeVN oxygen-nucleus reactions are presented. The E/sub t/ distributions are compared to a geometrical parametrization and a Montereverse arrowCarlo calculation, particle spectra to the proton-nucleus reaction case. Spectra of negative particles and photons in collisions of p/minus/W and /sup 16/O/minus/W at 200 GeVu

Description: /rho//perpendicular/ spectra of negative particles were measured for p/minus/W and /sup 16/O/minus/W collisions at 200 GeVupsilon in the rapidity range 0.9< y <1.9. Within the systematic errors of 20% the spectra are indentical in the range 0.05 </rho//perpendicular/<2.0 GeVc. The p/minus/W and /sup 16/O /minus/W spectra exhibit an exponential shape for /rho//perpendicular/>250 MeVc. Thermal strains in titanium aluminide and nickel aluminide composites

Description: Neutron diffraction was used to measure residual thermal strains developed during postfabrication cooling in titanium aluminide and nickel aluminide intermetallic matrix composites. Silicon carbide /Ti 14Al-21Nb, tungsten and sapphire/NiAl, and sapphire and SiC-coated sapphire/NiAl{sub 25}Fe{sub 10} composites were investigated. Depth distributions of low energy deuterium implantations in (110) tungsten: a theoretical model

Description: The depth distributions of 80 eV D/sup +/ implants in (110) W have recently been measured by field desorption microscopy. Prominent structure, consisting of seven major and several minor peaks, is observed in the measured distributions. This contrasts with conventional implantation theory which predicts two peaks, one for the channeled D/sup +/ and one for the nonchanneled D/sup +/. Single atom sputtering events: direct observation of near-surface depleted zones in ion-irradiated tungsten

Description: The three-dimensional spatial arrangement of vacancies contained in depleted zones (DZs), of ion-irradiated tungsten specimens, was determined with atomic resolution by the field-ion microscope (FIM) technique. Studies of the /sup 32/S + /sup 182/W reaction

Description: Fission-like products from the reaction /sup 32/S + /sup 182/W were measured over the entire angular range from theta = 10-170/sup 0/ and for bombarding energies of E/sub lab/ = 166, 177, 222, and 260 MeV using an array of eight Si detectors.
