Flat Field Anomalies in an X-ray CCD Camera Measured Using a Manson X-ray Source (HTPD 08 paper)

Description: The Static X-ray Imager (SXI) is a diagnostic used at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) to measure the position of the X-rays produced by lasers hitting a gold foil target. The intensity distribution taken by the SXI camera during a NIF shot is used to determine how accurately NIF can aim laser beams. This is critical to proper NIF operation. New Fragment Separation Technology for Superheavy Element Research

Using the Nova target chamber for high-yield targets

Description: The existing 2.2-m-radius Nova aluminum target chamber, coated and lined with boron-seeded carbon shields, is proposed for use with 1000-MJ-yield targets in the next laser facility. HYLIFE-II reactor chamber mechanical design: Update

Description: Mechanical design features of the reactor chamber for the HYLIFE-II inertial confinement fusion power plant are presented. A combination of oscillating and steady, molten salt streams (Li{sub 2}BeF{sub 4}) are used for shielding and blast protection of the chamber walls. The system is designed for a 6 Hz repetition rate. Neutron Skyshine Considerations For The NIF Shielding Design

Shielding analysis for a heavy ion beam chamber with plasma channels for ion transport

Description: Neutronics analysis has been performed to assess the shielding requirements for the insulators and final focusing magnets in a modified HYLIFE-II target chamber that utilizes pre-formed plasma channels for heavy ion beam transport. Using 65 cm thick Flibe jet assemblies provides adequate shielding for the electrical insulator units. Production of beams of neutron-rich nuclei between Ca and Ni using the ion-guide technique

Janus Intense Short Pulse (ISP), the Next Ultrahigh Intensity Laser at LLNL

Description: The Janus ISP upgrade is being developed at LLNL to provide a high-energy (hundreds of Joules) short duration (0.5 to 200 ps) laser pulse with variable delay from a second high-energy (up to 1kJ) long duration (0.2 to 20 ns) laser pulse on target. A new target chamber will allow the angle between the long and short pulse beams to be varied from about 35 to near 180 degrees. Commissioning of the system will begin in the summer of 2005.

Examination of irradiated 304L stainless steel to 6061-T6 aluminum inertia welded transition joints after irradiation in a spallation neutron

Description: The Savannah River Technology Center (SRTC) designed and fabricated tritium target/blanket assemblies which were irradiated for six months at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). Cooling water was supplied to the assemblies through 1 inch diameter 304L Stainless Steel (SS) tubing.
