Estimates of post-acceleration longitudinal bunch compression

Description: A simple analytic method is developed, based on physical approximations, for treating transient implosive longitudinal compression of bunches of heavy ions in an accelerator system for ignition of inertial-confinement fusion pellet targets. Parametric dependences of attainable compressions and of beam path lengths and times during compression are indicated for ramped pulsed-gap lines, rf systems in storage and accumulator rings, and composite systems, including sections of free drift. Soudan 2 as a long baseline neutrino detector

Description: In a nine month run with a 150 GeV proton beam and a conventional double horn neutrino beam aimed at the Soudan 2 detector, a search could be made for neutrino oscillations in the mode /nu//sub /mu// /yields/ /nu//sub /tau//. If evidence for oscillations is not found, new limits could be set extending the /Delta/m/sup 2/ excluded region from .3 eV/sup 2/ to .004 eV/sup 2/ at 90% confidence level. 7 refs., 4 figs.

Study of the effect of the space charge using SYNCH

Description: The interparticle repulsion, or space charge, limits the density of charged-particle beams that can be obtained in storage rings. In this report the authors study the effect of increasing the space charge, with an exact computation of the lattice parameters using SYNCH. Collective Effects in the NSLS-II Storage Ring.

Description: A new high-brightness synchrotron light source (NSLS-II) is under design at BNL. The 3-GeV NSLS-II storage ring has a double-bend achromatic lattice with damping wigglers installed in zero-dispersion straights to reduce the emittance below 1nm. In this paper, we present an overview of the impact of collective effects upon the performance of the storage ring. A Search for the Decays B^+ to e^+\nu_e and B^+ to \mu^+\nu_\mu Using Hadronic-tag Reconstruction

Description: The authors report on a search for the rare decay modes B{sup +} {yields} e{sup +}{nu}{sub e} and B{sup +} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{nu}{sub {mu}} with data collected from the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring. Preliminary Impedance Budget for Nsls-Ii Storage Ring.

Description: The wakefield and impedance produced by the components of the NSLS-II storage ring have been computed for an electron bunch length of 3mm rms. The results are summarized in a table giving for each component, the loss factor ({kappa}{sub {parallel}}), the imaginary part of the longitudinal impedance at low frequency divided by the revolution harmonic (ImZ{sub {parallel}}/n), and the transverse kick factors ({kappa}{sub x}, {kappa}{sub y}).

Coupling Impedance of Cesr-B Rf Cavity for the Nsls-Ii Storage Ring.

Description: CESR-B type superconducting cavities are under consideration for acceleration of the electron beam in the 3GeV NSLS-II storage ring. In this paper we present detailed investigation of longitudinal and transverse impedance of CESR-B cavity and transitions. Ferrite material is included in impedance analysis. Its effect on short range wake potential has been studied using GdfidL code. The summary results of loss factors and kick factors are presented for a 3mm rms bunch length.
