Results of well-testing in the Broadlands geothermal field, New Zealand

Description: Although not the first hot-water geothermal field under development, the Broadlands geothermal field has shown itself to be quite different in behavior to other hot-water fields. The field was discharged some five years between 1966 and 1971, and has provided a large source of data in its as yet undeveloped state. This paper presents some of the results inferred from well-testing and highlights (1) the complexity of the system, (2) the importance of wellbore storage effects and (3) the effects … more

Study of desorption in a vapor dominated reservoir with fractal geometry

Description: This paper is an attempt to model well decline in a vapor dominated reservoir with fractal geometry. The fractal network of fractures is treated as a continuum with characteristic anomalous diffusion of pressure. A numerical solver is used to obtain the solution of the partial differential equation including adsorption in the fractal storage space. The decline of the reservoir is found to obey the empirical hyperbolic type relation when adsorption is not present. Desorption does not change the … more

A Management and Selection System for R&D Projects, Volume II - Project Management System and Project Data System

Description: This report in three volumes describes an R&D project management and selection system developed for the Utilization Technology Branch of the Division of Geothermal Energy, Department of Energy. The proposed project management system (PMS) consists of a project data system (PDS) and a project selection procedure (PSP). The project data system consists of a series of project data forms and project status logs, and descriptions of information pathways. The PDS emphasizes timely monitoring of t… more

Summary Report, Southwest Regional Geothermal Operations Research Program: First project year, June 1977-August 1978

Description: The overall objectives of the first year project were as follows: (1) to develop realistic but aggressive scenarios with certainty factors for the development of each identified geothermal resource area in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah; (2) to delineate the public actions, together with their schedules, required for the scenarios to materialize; and (3) to develop a computer-based data storage and retrieval system (i.e. a Regional Program Progress Monitor) of the level of a pr… more

Energy programs at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Quarterly report, January--March 1979

Description: Work on developing energy resources, utilization concepts, and storage methods is summarized and divided into three sections. The first, Geothermal Energy Development Planning, contains reports on the progress of those geothermal-related tasks where effort was concentrated during the quarter. The tasks include an ongoing Atlantic Coastal Plain Geothermal Energy Market Survey, the Delmarva Geothermal Development Prospectus, Evaluation of Federal Strategies for Hydrothermal Developments, and comm… more
