Numerical simulation of a short RFQ resonator using the MAFIA codes

Description: The electrical characteristics of a short (2{beta}{lambda}=0.4 m) resonator with large modulation (m=4) have been studied using the three dimensional codes, MAFIA. The complete resonator, including the modulated electrodes and a complex support structure, has been simulated using {approximately} 350,000 mesh points. Development of a mathematical model of a packed column for benzene removal from salt solutions

Description: A mathematical model of a packed column was developed to describe the removal of benzene from radioactive salt solutions at the Savannah River Site. The model was developed from existing, generalized mass transfer correlations for randomly dumped packing, and the correlations were adapted for structured packing. Generation of coherent soft x-rays using a single-pass free-electron laser amplifier

Description: We consider a single-pass free-electron laser (FEL) amplifier, driven by an rf-linac followed by a damping ring for reduced emittance, for use in generating coherent light in the soft x-ray region. DYNAVAC: a transient-vacuum-network analysis code

Description: This report discusses the structure and use of the program DYNAVAC, a new transient-vacuum-network analysis code implemented on the NMFECC CDC-7600 computer. A semi-analytical method for heat sweep calculations in fractured reservoirs

Description: An analytical approximation is developed for purely conductive heat transfer from impermeable blocks of rock to fluids sweeping past the rocks in fractures. The method was incorporated into a multi-phase fluid and heat flow simulator. Comparison with exact analytical solutions and with simulations using a multiple interacting continua approach shows very good accuracy, with no increase in computing time compared to porous medium simulations. 14 refs., 3 figs., 5 tabs.

Organic iodine removal from simulated dissolver off-gas streams using silver-exchanged mordenite

Description: The removal of methyl iodide by absorption onto silver mordenite was studied using a simulated off-gas from the fuel dissolution step of a nuclear fuel reprocessing plant. The methyl iodide absorption of silver mordenite was examined for the effects of NO/sub x/, humidity, iodine concentration, filter temperature, and filter pretreatment.
