Airborne Reconnaissance Project, Ruby Range and Sweetwater Basin, Montana

Description: Abstract: A low-level airborne radioactivity survey of parts of Beaverhead and Madison Counties in southwestern Montana was undertaken from June 6 to October 14, 1955. Flying centered around the Ruby Range-Sweetwater Basin area and concentrated on the Precambrian metamorphic complex and Tertiary lake-bed sediments. No commercial uranium deposits were discovered, and no extensions were found of the few known small occurrences. Five areas of high background detected through the survey were investigated on the ground.

Eastern and Central Montana as a Possible Source Area of Uranium

Description: From abstract: Geologic settings are recognized in central and eastern Montana and in a few places in southwestern Montana that elsewhere are similar to the settings for the occurrence of uranium deposits. Several specific areas in Montana seem favorable for the occurrence of uranium.

Preliminary Report on the Rimini Area, Jefferson City Quadrangle, Jefferson County and Lewis and Clark County, Montana

Description: Abstract: A number of radioactivity anomalies and secondary uranium minerals have been found in the Rimini area near the northwestern margin of the Boulder batholith. Most of the anomalies are associated with chalcedonic vein zones that consist of one or more veins of cryptocrystalline and fine-grained quartz in silicified quartz monzonite and alaskite. Seventeen of the anomalies were found along veins that contain base and precious metals; nine were along veins in the vicinity of the village of Rimini from which there has been production of lead, silver, zinc, and gold.

Reconnaissance for Trace Elements in North Dakota and Eastern Montana

Description: From abstract: A reconnaissance for sources of radioactive material in North Dakota and eastern Montana was made in 1948. This reconnaissance was followed by a more detailed survey of parts of Golden Valley and Slope counties, southwestern North Dakota, in June 1949. The radioactivity of representative sections of all formations known to be exposed in the area and of three manganiferous spring deposits was determined with portable Geiger-Mueller counters. At 86 localities 82 samples were taken of these formations and also of 10 ground and surface waters.

USAEC Airborne Radiometric Reconnaissance in Arkansas, Colorado, Montana, Texas and Utah, 1952 to 1955

Description: From introduction: This is one of a series of three reports on airborne radioactivity surveys in the United States. The reports contain the 185 airborne anomaly maps issued by the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission as a result of the AEC's aerial surveying program conducted from March 1952 to June 1956; two ground reconnaissance maps of Utah also are included. Most of the reconnaissance was done in the western United States.
