Description: Measurements leading to the calculation of the ideal-gas thermodynamic properties for 2-methylaniline and trans-(R,S)-decahydroquinoline are reported. Chelating extractants of improved selectivity. Progress report, August 1, 1978-July 31, 1979

Description: During the current contract period, the variation of coordination number of tervalent lanthanides observed earlier with 8-quinolinol extraction systems was exploited in the development of mixed ligand (so-called synergistic) extraction systems involving 1, 10-phenanthroline (phen) and 8-quinolinol (HOx). Using a mixture of HOx and phen significantly enhanced the difference between adjacent lanthanide ions and facilitated their separation.

Control of catalytic hydrotreating selectivity with ammonia

Description: The hydrogenation of phenanthrene in the presence of 24 kPa of ammonia was studied during the hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) of quinoline on a sulfided NiMo/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} catalyst at 360{degrees}C, 6.9 MPa total H{sub 2} pressure in a vapor phase tubular reactor. Mild gasification of Usibelli coal in an inclined fluidized-bed reactor

Description: Results of mild gasification tests of minus 16-mesh Usibelli coal in an inclined fluidized-bed reactor are described in this report. The minus 16-mesh fraction was separated from the coal by screening. Control of catalytic hydrotreating selectivity with ammonia

Description: Research continued on catalytic hydrotreating selectivity with ammonia. Rate enhancement for catalytic upgrading coal naphthas

Description: The amount of individual nitrogen and sulfur presented in the feed and hydrotreated Illinois [number sign]6 naphtha were determined. The major nitrogen class in the naphtha are anilines. Mutagenic activity and heterocyclic amine content of the human diet

Description: The mutagenic activity and the mass amount of heterocyclic amines responsible for the mutagenic activity have been measured in some cooked foods. Cooked meats are the predominant source of mutagenic activity in the diet with values ranging from 0 to 10,000 revertants per gram reported in the Ames/Salmonelia test with strain TA98. Heteropolyanions: Soluble precatalysts for quinoline hydrogenation

Description: Initial efforts to evaluate heteropolyanions as potential precatalysts for quinoline hydrogenation are described. Reaction parameters are developed that define a baseline for quinoline hydrogenation to tetrahydroquinoline through exploration of the effects of variations in temperature, H{sub 2 pressure}, catalyst and quinoline concentrations on the catalytic activity.
