A CURRENT REVIEW OF BODY FLUID ANALYSIS, PROCEDURES, AND METHOD OF REPORTING--JANUARY 1957

Description: Direct alpha counting to determine fissile material in dilnte solutions of high total solids content is likely to be inaccurate due to the difficulty of preparing thin sources. This report describes a neutron-activation analysis method which eliminates this risk. Results obtained by the neutronactivation analysis for U/sup 238/ in solution are compared with results obtained from other methods. The standard deviation and sensitivity are shown. (auth)

HRT CORROSION SAMPLES--ADDITIONAL DATA ON SPECIMENS REMOVED PRIOR TO RUN NO. 20

Description: Results of the examinations of corrosion specimens exposed in the HRT are presented. Specimens examined include core screen samples, core specimen array No. 1, blanket specimen array No. 2, core solution line specimen arrays No. 103 and 103A, and blanket solution line specimen array No. 203. These data include corrosion rates, computed from specimen weight-changes, and results of chemical analyses of scales removed from the specimens or specimen holders. A summary is included of the HRT operating schedule during exposure of the specimens and of the status of examinations for the specimens removed from the reactor prior to run 20. (auth)

Annual Report of ICPP Analytical Section for 1961

FLAME PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF IRON. PARTS I, II, III AND IV

Description: An investigation was conducted to compare the flame emission spectrum of Fe as recorded by the Beckman DU and the ORNL flame spectrophotometers. It was found that the ORNL instrument is best suited to the application. Optimum operating conditions are described as well as results of investigations to determine interferences. (J.R.D.)

TECHNIQUES USED FOR THE PRODUCTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF THE TRANSPLUTONIUM ELEMENTS

Description: Presented at Mendeleev Chemistry Conference, Moscow, March 1953. A study was made of the production and identification of the transplutonium elements with atomic number greater than 94. A detailed discussion is presented of the identification of elements 101 and 102 and the possible applications of these methods to elements beyond. A brief review of the discovery of all of the transplutonium elements is given to show the gradual change in experimental techniques. (J. E. D.)
