A Combined Physical/Microbial Process for Coal Beneficiation

Description: A combined physical/microbial process for the removal of pyritic sulfur from coal was demonstrated in a 200 L aerated trough slurry reactor. The reactor was divided into six sections, each of which acted as both a physical separator and a bioreactor. Settled solids from sections 2 through 6 were recycled to section 1 which acted as a rougher. Development of the electroacoustic dewatering (EAD) process for fine/ultrafine coal. Final report

Description: Battelle (Columbus, Ohio) undertook development of its electro-acoustic (EAD) process to demonstrate its commercial potential for continuous dewatering of fine and ultrafine coals. Hydrothermal Pretreatment of Coal. Quarterly Report No. 4, July 16--October 15, 1990

Description: During this period we studied the effects of 350{degrees}C treatment on Argonne-supplied Wyodak coal with n-alkane undecane in place of water in both 30 min. and 5 hr. experiments. Refining of fossil resin flotation concentrate from Western coal. Second quarterly final report, April 1, 1993--June 30, 1993

Description: Ultimate analysis was conducted for the fossil resin concentrate and results obtained are given in Table 2. Based on these results and other results from spectroscopic analysis it appears that the fossil resin from the Wasatch Plateau coal field consists mainly of aliphatic components and partially aromatized multicyclic terpenoids with a few oxygen functional groups. Surface electrochemical control for fine coal and pyrite separation. Final report

Description: Laboratory flotation tests were carried out on three coals and on coal pyrite. Floatability measurements included natural floatability, flotation with a xanthate collector and salt flotation. The ranking of the floatability of the three coals were: Upper Freeport > Pittsburgh > Illinois. The floatability of mineral pyrite and coal pyrite increased markedly with xanthate concentration, but decreased with increased pH. Description: During the tenth quarter, electrochemical experiments were done on electrodes prepared from Upper Freeport coal pyrite, and Pittsburgh coal pyrite samples provided by the US Bureau of Mines, Pittsburgh Research Center, Pennsylvania.
