Performance of Pentaborane, Pentaborane - JP-4 Fuel Mixtures, and Trimethylborate Azeotrope Fuel in a Full-scale Turbojet Engine

Description: Report presenting summaries of full-scale engine tests of pentaborane, pentaborane-JP-4 fuel mixtures, and trimethylborate-methyl-alcohol-azeotrope fuels. Tests were conducted at an altitude of 50,000 feet and Mach number of 0.8. Results regarding the fuel effects on overall performance, effects on component performance, effect of turbine-outlet temperature on engine performance, and miscellaneous observations are provided.

Investigation of Effect of Number and Width of Annular Flameholder Gutters on Afterburner Performance

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation of the effect of the number and width of annular flame-holder gutters on afterburner performance in a 26-inch-diameter afterburner test rig. The burner inlet temperature was held at 1250 degrees Fahrenheit. Results regarding the effect of gutter width on stability limits and effect of flame-holder blockage on pressure drop are provided.

Spatial Burnout in Water Reactors with Nonuniform Startup Distributions of Uranium and Boron

Description: "Spatial burnout calculations have been made of two types of water moderated cylindrical reactor using boron as a burnable poison to increase reactor life. Specific reactors studied were a version of the Submarine Advanced Reactor (sAR) and a supercritical water reactor (SCW). Burnout characteristics such as reactivity excursion, neutron-flux and heat-generation distributions, and uranium and boron distributions have been determined for core lives corresponding to a burnup of approximately 7 ki… more
