Description: We have measured the energy deposited in two types of composite targets by a number of charged-particle beams: targets made of /sup 238/U, Lucite, and polyethylene were exposed to 0.26-GeV protons and 0.33-GeV deuterons, and aluminum-Lucite composites were exposed to 0.5-GeV electrons. Description: The Halthane series of urethane adhesives have sufficient adhesive strengths and cure times for most assembly processes at Pantex. The efficiency of preparation and handling of the three systems are nearly equal. Physical properties are more consistent between samples for the 87-1. Protective coatings and sealants for solar applications

Description: An aging study has been completed which evaluated a number of polymeric materials for potential use as (1) protective coatings for back surfaces of mirrors and (2) solar heliostat edge seals. These investigations were conducted in an artificial weathering chamber that accelerated thermal cycling. Multi-transducer dummy unit evaluation of polystyrene bead foam as an encapsulant for electronic packages

Description: A dummy electronic assembly without electronic components was used to measure loadings and deflections caused by 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 g/cm/sup 3/ densities of polystyrene bead foam during fusion and thermal cycling. Previously developed and proven transducers showed that the lower three densities caused low and safe loads and deflections, but that the highest two densities must be used with care for fragile electronic components.

Anion exchange of 58 elements in hydrobromic acid and in hydriodic acid

Description: Anion exchange distributions of 58 elements have been measured from 0.1-8.7M HBr and from 0.1-7.4M HI onto three strong-base resins, 8 and 4% cross-linked and macroporous. Data were obtained by 16- to 18-h dynamic batch contacts. Anion exchange in these media is compared to that in HCl. The effect of resin cross-linkage is considerably greater in HI media than in HBr and HCl media. Examples are presented of potentially useful separations using HBr and HI media alone and in combination with HCl.

A replaceable reflective film for solar concentrators

Description: The 3M Company manufactures a silvered acrylic film called ECP-305 that is regarded as the preferred reflective film for use on stretched-membrane heliostats.
