Localized Plasticity in the Streamlined Genomes of Vinyl Chloride Respiring Dehalococcoides

Description: Vinyl chloride (VC) is a human carcinogen and widespread priority pollutant. Here we report the first, to our knowledge, complete genome sequences of microorganisms able to respire VC, Dehalococcoides sp. strains VS and BAV1. Description: This project is concerned with the over-production of ligno-cellulolytic enzymes which are relevant to the paper-pulp industry and agricultural community. Since ligno-cellulosics are components of wood, the project involves the forest, a renewable energy resource. Description: A variety of lignin degrading fungi mediate solubilization and subsequent biodegradation of coal macromolecules (a.k.a. coal polymer) from highly oxidized low rank coals such as leonardites. Fatty acyl-CoA reductase

Description: The present invention relates to bacterial enzymes, in particular to an acyl-CoA reductase and a gene encoding an acyl-CoA reductase, the amino acid and nucleic acid sequences corresponding to the reductase polypeptide and gene, respectively, and to methods of obtaining such enzymes, amino acid sequences and nucleic acid sequences. The complete genome sequence of Staphylothermus marinus reveals differences in sulfur metabolism among heterotrophic Crenarchaeota

Description: Staphylothermus marinus is an anaerobic, sulfur-reducing peptide fermenter of the archaeal phylum Crenarchaeota. Mechanisms of lignin biosynthesis during xylogenesis in Zinnia elegans. Final report, July 1, 1992--June 30, 1996

Description: This project initially focused on identifying and characterizing three components of the extracellular lignification reaction: peroxidases, hydrogen peroxide production, and oxygen dependent oxidases. Zinnia elegans was utilized for the model organism. Laccase activity was found to be more tightly correlated with lignification than peroxidase activity.
