Stellar nucleosynthesis and the 24-keV neutron capture cross sections of some heavy nuclei

Description: The neutron capture cross sections of /sup 112/Sn, /sup 130/Ba, /sup 146/Nd, /sup 148/Nd, /sup 186/W, /sup 190/Os, and /sup 192/Os at 24 keV neutron energy were measured with respect to /sup 197/Au by activation in a 24 keV neutron beam at the Brookhaven High Flux Beam Reactor. The reliability of this technique was verified by remeasuring the cross section of /sup 186/W and comparing it to previous measurements. This continuing series of measurements will provide a more reliable data base for nucleosynthesis calculations. 12 references.

Shape isomers as candidates for the gamma ray laser storage state

Description: Three Dimension Nuclear Hartree-Fock calculations have been performed for isotopes of Osmium, Mercury, and Tungsten. Many of the calculated potential energy surfaces show a second minimum at large prolate deformation indicating the possibility of shape isomeric states. Several are at sufficiently low energy to be possible candidates as storage states for the gamma ray laser. 9 refs., 4 figs., 1 tab.

Atlas of photoneutron cross sections obtained with monoenergetic photons. [Between 10 and 50 MeV]

Description: The data included in this supplement replace earlier preliminary results presented in the Bicentennial Edition of the Atlas of Photoneutron Cross Sections (UCRL-78482, 1976). The nuclei included are /sup 13/C, /sup 18/O, /sup 55/Mn, /sup 59/Co, /sup 186/ /sup 188/ /sup 189/ /sup 192/Os, /sup 232/Th, and /sup 235/ /sup 236/ /sup 238/U, all from measurements performed at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.
