Mining Petroleum by Underground Methods: A study of Methods used in France and Germany and Possible Application to Depleted Oil Fields under American Conditions

Description: From Introduction: "That the percentages of extraction of petroleum from the ground may and undoubtedly will be greatly increased in the future by underground mining methods where natural conditions will permit seems logical. The limitations imposed by depth, temperature, and flow of water under high pressure through the sands will be discussed later."

Production and Development Problems in the Powell Oil Field, Navarro County, Texas

Description: From Introduction: "The Mexia-Powell fault fields have long held the attention of the oil industry, and this report proposes to present information on these fields and to interpret it for the consideration and guidance of all persons concerned in further development of the area. Detailed study of this field was made primarily to obtain a better working knowledge of the major features, involving structural conditions, the character and nature of the Woodbine pay sand, and the source of water."

Underground Conditions in Oil Fields

Description: From Introduction: "This paper aims to show the general method of procedure in studying underground conditions in producing oil fields and how such study may not only correct but even prevent great unnecessary losses. Throughout the paper reference is made to oil wells and oil fields, but to a certain degree many of the suggestions relating to oil wells are applicable in the care and protection of gas wells and in solving gas problems."

Gas-Lift Method of Flowing Oil Wells: (California Practice)

Description: From Introduction: "In this report the author has presented data of actual gas-lift operations in the oil fields of California. Wherever theoretical hypotheses and conclusions are given an attempt has been made to support them by field data gathered during consultation with engineers and operators. The impossibility of drawing conclusions that will apply to all wells or even to one well throughout its life is appreciated by everyone who has studied the subject, and the reader is cautioned not to accept all the data presented as being applicable to every well."

Outer Continental Shelf: Debate Over Oil and Gas Leasing and Revenue Sharing

Description: Oil and gas leasing has been prohibited on most of the outer continental shelf (OCS) since the 1980s. Congress has enacted OCS leasing moratoria for each of fiscal years 1982-2006 in the annual Interior Appropriations bill, allowing leasing only in the Gulf of Mexico (except near Florida) and parts of Alaska. President George H.W. Bush in 1990 issued a Presidential Directive ordering the Department of the Interior not to conduct offshore leasing or preleasing activity in areas covered by the annual legislative moratoria until 2000. In 1998 President Clinton extended the offshore leasing prohibition until 2012. This report provides background on the issues and examines the current status of relevant legislation.

Radioactivity in Some Oil Fields of Southeastern Kansas

Description: From abstract: Radium-bearing precipitates derived from 'oil-well fluids have been found in more than 60 oil and gas fields in Cowley, Butler, Marion, Sedgwick, and Greenwood Counties of southeastern Kansas. The abnormal radioactivity of these precipitates has been studied through the use of gamma-ray and sample logs; by radiometric, chemical petrographic, and spectrographic analyses of the precipitates and drill samples; and through the use of chemical analyses of brines collected from oil wells in the areas of high radioactivity.
