[Students standing on the steps of the Normal Building]

Description: Photograph of students posing on the steps of the Normal Building. Built in 1891, the Normal Building was the first building built on the North Texas Normal College campus, on what is now the corner of Oak and Avenue B. In 1907, the building was struck by lightning and destroyed. The photograph shows the front entrance stairs of the building, with two women and a man seated on the ground in front, and a group of 46 men and women standing on the stairs. Photograph taken between 1891 and 1907.

[Inez Evans North Texas State Normal College diploma]

Description: Diploma from North Texas State Normal College certifying that Inez Evans has completed the necessary coursework to earn a degree of Bachelor of Arts. At the top of the document is an illustration of the Texas Coat of Arms; a star of five points, encircled by a wreath of olive and live oak branches The Certificate is signed by President William Herschel Bruce and President of the Board of Regents M. O. Flowers. At the bottom of the diploma it is embossed with the North Texas State Normal College seal.

Description: Photograph of the Chemistry Class, Spring 1900, of the North Texas State Normal College. 9 young women and 7 young men are seen sitting and standing in a classroom, around a table, on which rest a number of pieces of scientific equipment. All wear aprons. Photographic print mounted on card backing. Handwritten notation below photo "The Chemistry Class 1900 - [Spring]". Reverse of mount with several handwritten notes: "Chemistry Class 1900 North Texas Normal College"; "Y873", and "Chemistry students, 1900"; The reverse also has a typed label "Chemistry Class 1900 North Texas Normal College", with handwritten notation "3 col [illeg] zinc halftone".

Description: Photograph of a group of women sitting in front of an unidentified boarding house ca. 1900. The 30 women sit or stand in rows outside in front of the porch, while a single bearded elderly man stands at back to left. It was common for students of the various higher education schools in Denton to live in boarding houses or with families around town, and many students from the then North Texas State Normal College lived in boarding houses. Photographic image mounted on stiff backing. Inscribed on reverse: "Boarding House".

Description: Photograph of a class of students standing on the stairs to an entrance to the Main Building of the North Texas State Normal College, c.1904. The 39 men and women stand or sit in rows on the stairs looking at the camera. Photographic image mounted on card backing. Handwritten notes on reverse: "Class of Teachers College - Denton Tex.", "Gift of Mrs. Adkinson[?]", and - partly defaced - "From Mrs. Bat[illegible] Atkins[?] 200 Ave D Denton". Image is undated, but must have been taken between 1904 when the Main building was constructed as the second permanent building on the NT campus, and 1923 when it was torn down. Most likely taken ca. 1904.

[Normal Building and Frame Building, 1903]

Description: Photograph of part of the North Texas State Normal College campus, showing (right) the Frame Building and (left) The Normal Building, c. 1903, set among trees. Photographic image mounted on gray card backing. Handwritten caption on lower margin of photograph: "North Texas State Normal as it was in 1902-3". Handwritten notation on right margin of photograph: "College of Vera Churchill". Reverse with handwritten notes: "From Alice Potter, Jan. 10, 1903, To Vera Churchill, North Texas State Normal School, Denton, Texas" and "84.12.1". Considered the first permanent and the second buildings built on campus, the Normal Building was constructed in 1891, and was struck by lightning and destroyed in 1907. The Frame Building was constructed in 1901 to provide extra space for an auditorium and classes, and was torn down about 1904 to make way for what would become known as the Old Main Building. The buildings were located facing Hickory Street, east of Avenue B.

Description: Graduation announcement for the commencement ceremony of the 1910 class of North Texas State Normal College. The announcement is a plain sheet of cardstock; in the upper left hand corner, there is a raised image of the school's seal above the text, which reads: "The Senior Class of North Texas State Normal College requests your presence at their Commencement Exercises May twenty-second to twenty-fourth nineteen hundred and ten College Auditorium."
