Construction and Testing of a Low-power Cryostat for MARS

Description: A low-power cryostat was designed and built for the Multi-sensor Airborne Radiation Survey (MARS) project for the purpose of housing a close-packed high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector array of 14 HPGe detectors. The power consumption of the cold mass in the cryostat was measured to be 4.07(11) watts, sufficient for 5.5 days of continuous operation using only 8 liters of liquid nitrogen. Thermal Treatment of Wastes in an Advanced Cyclonic Combustor

Lean-burn hydrogen spark-ignited engines: the mechanical equivalent to the fuel cell

Description: Fuel cells are considered as the ideal power source for future vehicles, due to their high efficiency and low emissions. However, extensive use of fuel cells in light-duty vehicles is likely to be years away, due to their high manufacturing cost. LX-13 component development scale up evaluation

Description: The intermediate phase oif the continuous PETN process development has been completed. After the initial development oif the process on a small scale, the intermediate step was to determine if the process will scale up to a production lot size and still maintain adequate performance. Preliminary data indicate that this process is feasible on a production scale. Three 18-kg lots (production size) showed good repeatable performance, firing on all tracks while maintaining acceptable extrudability.
