Electrochemically Controlled Ion-Exchange

Description: "For the past several years, the Rocketdyne Research Division has, under the sponsorship of the Office of Saline Water, engaged in a study of the application of electrochemical techniques to the demineralization of brackish water. Early work in this program was concerned with a mechanistic study of electrochemically induced demineralization at chemically treated carbon electrodes. The results of this study led to the development of a process called electrochemically controlled ion-exchange" (p.… more

Backward np Scattering With a Polarized Target

Description: The authors have measured the polarization parameter P in neutron-proton elastic scattering near the backward direction, using a polarized proton target. Measurements covered the range of incident neutron moment from 1.0 to 5.5 GeV/c and of four-momentum transfer squared u from -0.005 to -0.5 (GeV/c){sup 2}. Forward going protons were detected by means of a wire-spark-chamber spectrometer. Slow neutrons near 90 deg lab angle were detected in coincidence by means of an array of plastic scintilla… more

RADIOECOLOGICAL STUDIES ON THE COLUMBIA RIVER Part I

Description: The use of Columbia River water as a reactor coolant and the subsequent discharge of this cooling water into the River introduces a number of radioactive elements into the river environment. These radionuclides are produced by the neutron activation of stable elements in solution in the cooling water and the sloughing off of radioactive corrosion products from the surfaces of the reactor cooling tubes. The relationships of these radioactive materials to river organisms have been studied since r… more

A Study of Neutron Proton Charge Exchange Scattering in the Momentum Range 50 - 200 GeV

Description: It is proposed to measure the neutron-proton charge-exchange cross-section in an on-line counter experiment for four-momentum transfers between .002 and 1.0 (GeV/c){sup 2}. The experiment will be performed in an intense neutron beam with a continuous momentum spectrum; data will be taken simultaneously for all momenta between 50 and 200 GeV/c. At a beam intensity of 10{sup 7} neutrons/pulse, the true data-collection rate will be about .5 per pulse. Approximately 90,000 events will be obtained. … more

Proposal to study the small angle neutal beam using a v spectrometer

Description: We propose to construct a V Spectrometer to survey the NAL small angle neutral beam. The system will employ conservative techniques and will be a suitably scaled and modified version of the kind of V spectrometer which has been successfully employed for K-Long measurements at lower energy machines (eg K-Long {yields} {pi}{sup plus_minus} (illegible), K-Short regeneration and CP violation experiments). We discuss a new scheme wherein the large beam energies made available by NAL will facilitate … more

A proposal to study the reaction pi- p --> pi- pi+ n at the National Accelerator Laboratory

Description: A proposal is made to study the reaction {pi}{sup -}p {yields} {pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup +}n at incident {pi}{sup -} moments of 20, 40, 60, and 80 GeV/c. Of particular interest in this final state are the s and t dependences of {rho}, f, and N* production, and the dynamics of the so-called multiperipheral region of the Dalitz plot. The directions of the incident {pi}{sup -} and outgoing {pi}{sup -} and {pi}{sup +} are determined by multiwire proportional counters and wire spark chambers. The directio… more
