Neutron environment in d + Li facilities

Description: A microscopic d + Li neutron yield model has been developed based upon classical models and experimental data. Using equations suggested by the Serber and evaporation models, a generalized least squares adjustment procedure generated angular yields for E/sub d/ to 40 MeV using the available experimental data. The HEDL-UCD experiment at E/sub d/ = 35 was used to adjust parameters describing the neutron spectra. The model is used to predict yields, spectra, and damage responses in the FMIT Test C… more

The Advanced Neutron Source

Description: The Advanced Neutron Source (ANS) is a new user experimental facility planned to be operational at Oak Ridge in the late 1990's. The centerpiece of the ANS will be a steady-state research reactor of unprecedented thermal neutron flux ({phi}{sub th} {approx} 9{center dot}10{sup 19} m{sup -2}{center dot}s{sup -1}) accompanied by extensive and comprehensive equipment and facilities for neutron-based research. 5 refs., 5 figs.

Dynamic shear behavior of alumina-filled epoxy

Description: Thin-walled tubular specimens of alumina-filled epoxy were loaded in torsion at a strain rate of approximately 10/sup 3/ s/sup -1/ using a stored-torque Kolsky bar. In addition to measuring the time resolved shear stress and shear strain in the specimen, the axial stress generated by the dilation of the material during shear deformation was also obtained as a function of time. Neutron flux enhancement at LASREF

Description: The accelerator at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility produces a 1-mA beam of protons at an energy of 800 MeV. Sample environments at IPNS: present and future capabilities

Description: Argonne's Intense Pulsed Neutron Source, IPNS, was dedicated as a major user-oriented neutron scattering facility two years ago. Test of time reversal symmetry with resonance neutron scattering

Description: The possibility of searching for time-reversal symmetry violation in the scattering of epithermal neutrons from nuclei is discussed. Sources of both statistical and systematic errors are reviewed. Zetatron neutron tube and pulse transformer for driving it: a transfer of technology to the private sector

Description: The fabrication, testing, and delivery of ten Zetatron tubes (for use in logging probes for U exploration) under Phase I of Contract 07-5363 was successfully completed by Kaman Sciences Corporation. A comparison of spent fuel assembly control instruments: The Cadarache PYTHON and the Los Alamos Fork

Description: Devices to monitor spent fuel assemblies while stored under water with nondestructive assay methods, have been developed in France and in the United States. Both devices are designed to verify operator's declared values of exposures and cooling-time but the applications and thus the designs of the systems differ.
