ISABELLE: Brookhaven intersecting storage accelerators

Description: From seininar on high-energy accelerator science; Tokyo and Tsukuba, Japan (5 Nov 1973). The status of the ISABELLE project is briefly reviewed, and the design parameters are outlined including the lattice configuration, magnets. magnet power supply, injection, rf system, vacuum system, experimental areas and options. Report on the measurement of the total cross section and luminosity at Isabelle. A summary of existing CRISP reports

Description: Methods for measuring the total cross section ( sigma /sub T/) are discussed including measurement of sigma from the total interaction rate, measurement of sigma /sub T/ from the forward elastic cross section, measurement of sigma /sub T/ from the beam attenuation rate, and measurement of the nucleon- nucleon total cross section ratio. Several methods for determining the luminosity are considered including the Van der Meer method, using the intersection of a high BETA and low BETA beams, lumino… more

Multiparticle detector for ISABELLE

Description: The proposed multiparticle spectrometer is designed to study particles produced at small angles (0.5 < theta < 20 mr). It is assumed to be part of a larger set-up, where the larger angles are covered by other spectrometers, or at least a 4 pi detector, such as described by Arnold et al. (CRISP 72-65). The general layout consists of 4 magnets in a symmetrical arrangement. A set of proportional chambers downstream from the first set of magnets can measure both angle and momentum. Using a second p… more

Analysis of a quench event in the 20-in. Nb--Ti magnet model constructed by G. Danby et al.

Description: Measurements of the voltage and currcnt that resulted from a quench of a superconducting magnet were studied and a simple computer model of this process was developed. Large layer-tolayer voltages were generated by the quench and methods reducing these were suggested and examined. (auth)

New accelerator projects in America

Description: From third international conference on many-body- reactions; Zakopane, Poland (20 Jun 1972). The NAL Aecelerator project is described. Other new accelerator projects including polarized proton acceleration at the Argonne 2GS, the 2.5 GeV electron-positron colliding beams SPEAR, positron-electron-proton (PEP) colliding beams, and the ISABELLE projects are briefly discussed.
