High temperature electrochemical polishing of H{sub 2}S from coal gasification process streams. Quarterly progress report, April 1, 1995--June 30, 1995

Description: This program is concerned with the development of an advanced method for the separation of hydrogen sulfides from coal gas. The process utilizes an electrochemical membrane which removes hydrogen sulfide without cooling the gas and with negligible pressure loss through the separator.

Method for direct production of carbon disulfide and hydrogen from hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide feedstock

Description: A method for converting hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide to carbon disulfide and hydrogen is provided comprising contacting the hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide to a bi-functional catalyst residing in a controlled atmosphere for a time and at a temperature sufficient to produce carbon disulfide and hydrogen. Also provided is a catalyst for converting carbon sulfides and hydrogen sulfides to gasoline range hydrocarbons comprising a mixture containing a zeolite catalyst and a hydrogenating cata… more

Advanced low-temperature sorbents

Description: A number of promising technologies are currently being optimized for coal-based power generation, including the Integrated-Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) system. If IGCC is to be used successfully for power generation, an economic and efficient way must be found to remove the contaminants, particularly sulfur species, found in coal gas. Except for the hot gas desulfurization system, all major components of IGCC are commercially available or have been shown to meet system requirements. Over … more

P. G. and E. Geysers Retrofit Project, Units 1-12: Final Report, Technical Data, Volume I - Sections 1-8

Description: The purpose of this work is to demonstrate whether there is a cost benefit to Pacific Gas and Electric Company in replacing the present iron catalyst/caustic/peroxide system used in the direct contact condenser units with an alternative approach using surface condensers and the Stretford System for hydrogen sulfide abatement.

Evaluation of hydrogen embrittlement in Cr-Mo pressure vessel steels. Topical report No. 1

Description: Commercial 2-1/4 Cr-1 Mo low strength steel specimens have been tested to measure their susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement in an environment of H/sub 2/S at 50 psig. It was found that two factors, viz. (i) the plane stress zones on the crack front in compact tension specimens and (ii) incubation time effects, seriously confounded measurements on these steels when tested by conventional rising load experiments. Because of the incubation time effect, K/sub or/ (the stress intensity at which… more
