Geologic Features of Areas of Abnormal Radioactivity South of Ocala, Marion County, Florida

Description: From abstract: Areas of abnormal radioactivity south of Ocala, Marion County, Fla., discovered in 1953 by aerial survey, were investigated by surface examination and by 10 power auger drill holes. Interbedded clay, clayey sand, and uraniferous phosphorite occur in the areas of anomalous radioactivity. Miocene fossils occur at three localities in these beds which are evidently outliers of Miocene sediments on the Ocala limestone of Eocene age. The preserved outliers are southwest of the main bel… more

A Mineralogic Study of Churn Drill Cuttings From a Well Through the Bone Valley Formation, Hillsborough County, Florida

Description: From Abstract: "The mineral constituents of churn drill cuttings from a well through the Bone Valley formation and into the Hawthorn formation were determined. The weight percent of each mineral is given, as well as a description of the samples and the methods used."

Stratigraphy of Middle Tertiary Rocks in Part of West-Central Florida

Description: The following report presents the results of part of a geologic study of the phosphate deposits in central Florida. The purpose of the investigative research done in Florida is to determine the geologic history of the phosphate deposits and associated sediments, in order that the distribution of phosphate and uranium will be more clearly understood.

Orlando Area (ARMS-II)

Description: From Abstract: "The data are presented as aeroradioactivity units or areas with similar gamma radiation counting rates at 500 ft., at two map scales: (1) generalized at about 1: 1,000,000 and (2) detailed at 1:250,000. The maximum aeroradioactivity in almost all the area was less than 400 counts/sec. Aerial measurements of ground radioactivity in the ARMS-II Orlando area were consistent with what was expected, considering the geology of the area."
