Characterization of solids in the Three Mile Island Unit 2 Reactor defueling water: Addendum

Description: Shortly after ORNL/TM-10362 was issued, it was discovered that a series of 31 figures had been inadvertently omitted. These figures, which consist of scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence scans, provide significant information about the results obtained in the tests performed with water sample W3. This Addendum includes these figures. Details of and comments on the SEM photographs may be found in ORNL/TM-10362.

PHOTON: A user's manual

Description: PHOTON has proven very useful in the development of the X17 superconducting wiggler beamline. Its use has determined the shielding required from the wiggler device to the very end of the beamline in the hutches and angiography section. Doses calculated by this program have been compared with experimental results from conventional bending magnet beamline with great success. New filter efficiency test for future nuclear grade HEPA filters

Description: We have developed a new test procedure for evaluating filter penetrations as low as 10/sup /minus/9/ at 0.1-..mu..m particle diameter. In comparison, the present US nuclear filter certification test has a lower penetration limit of 10/sup /minus/5/. Optimal filtering, parameter tracking, and control of nonlinear nuclear reactors

Description: This paper presents a new formulation of a class of nonlinear optimal control problems in which the system's signals are noisy and some system parameters are changing arbitrarily with time. The methodology is validated with an application to a nonlinear nuclear reactor model. A variational technique based on Pontryagin's Maximum Principle is used to filter the noisy signals, estimate the time-varying parameters, and calculate the optimal controls. Development of a high-efficiency, high-performance air filter medium

Description: A unique high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter medium has been developed for applications in high temperature and high pressure environments. This filter medium is a composite made from quartz and stainless-steel fibers that have been sintered together. The effect of age on the structural integrity of HEPA filters

Fire aerosol experiment and comparisons with computer code predictions

Description: Los Alamos National Laboratory, in cooperation with New Mexico State University, has carried on a series of tests to provide experimental data on fire-generated aerosol transport. Multilayer mirrors as power filters in insertion device beamlines

Description: The power-filtering capabilities of multilayer band-pass x-ray mirrors relative to total reflection low-pass mirrors is presented. Results are based on calculations assuming proposed wiggler sources on the upcoming generation of low energy (1.5 GeV) and high energy (7.0 GeV) synchrotron radiation sources.
