The N.A.C.A. Optical Engine Indicator

Description: An optically recording engine-pressure indicator of simple and rugged construction has been developed for use in high-pressure and high temperature combustion research. This instrument is of the diaphragm type and has a natural frequency of about 10,000 cycles per second.

Description: Report presenting a study of the effect of aftercooling on the brake horsepower, weight, and weight-power ratio of a power plant consisting of a 2000-horsepower air-cooled engine, an intercooler, and two stages of supercharging. Performance at High Temperatures and Pressures of an Annular Turbojet Combustor Having Articulated Liner Walls

Analysis of experimental sea-level transient data and analog method of obtaining altitude response for turbine-propeller engine with relay-type speed control

Description: From Introduction: "This report shows correlation between actual transient data obtained from the engine and solutions to a simulated system set up on an analog computer. Data are presented for response of engine speed to changes in set speed when the power plant was being controlled by a relay-type electronic governor that acted to maintain set speed by varying propeller pitch. Engine Materials Compatability with Alternative Fuels

Description: The compatibility of aluminum and aluminum alloys with synthetic fuel blends comprised of ethanol and reference fuel C (a 50/50 mix of toluene and iso-octane) was examined as a function of water content and temperature. Correlation of exhaust-valve temperatures with engine operating conditions and valve design

The Effect of Increased Cooling Surface on Performance of Aircraft-Engine Cylinders as Shown by Tests of the NACA Cylinder

Description: Report presenting a method of constructing fins of nearly optimum proportions to the point where a cylinder has been manufactured and tested. Data were obtained on cylinder temperature for a wide range of inlet-manifold pressures, engine speeds, and cooling-pressure differences. On the Knocking of Gasoline Engines
