Description: Photocopy of a document from Bill McCarter, Co-Director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Beverly Fletcher. The document is separated into two sections, the first section being about Dr. Jack Davis, Provost of UNT and a major figure in Art Education having won many awards for his service to the discipline of art education along with Dr. Bill McCarter, Regents Professor at UNT. Both Davis and McCarter are co-directors of NTIEVA, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, an institute funding by matching grants from the Getty Center, Amon Carter Foundation and others. The second part of the letter is about their program, DBAE, the approach to art education by involve art specialists and classroom teachers in expanding art to include not only art production but critical thinking, judgement and other formalities. The hand-written note at the bottom reads, "Bev. we need overhead projector - thanks."

[Letter from Nancy Reynolds to John Biggers, March 31, 1993]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Nancy Reynolds, Project Coordinator of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to John Biggers. In regards to Biggers being unable to speak at the opening session during NTIEVA's summer institute. Reynolds writes the institute has been showing Biggers' "Hampton video" to their teachers and including his work from the Dallas Museum of Art into their study print collection. Reynolds writes that Jack Davis, Bill McCarter and herself have worked with Ollie Theisen to present a teacher workshop in conjunction with Bigger's exhibit in Mount Pleasant and she is working with others to produce an education video for the students and are requesting Biggers permission to use some of his images in the video. Enclosed in the letter to Biggers, Reynolds has included some material that provides more information about their project and the Institute.

[Letter from Bill McCarter to Chad Woolery, November 11, 1994]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Bill Cormack, Superintendent of Dallas ISD. McCarter writes that from the point of view of NTIEVA, there has been new energy and focus from Woolery's good words from their panel, TASA/TASB. It gave NTIEVA them insight into the leadership Woolery is providing. McCarter also writes that they appreciate Dr. Skinner and Bill Cormack, who have proven themselves as able spokespersons for the distract during their recent meeting at the Dallas Museum between DMA Education Committee and members of the Board of the Marcus Foundation. McCarter ends the letter by stating that NTIEVA is in the early stages of planning for activities during the summer of 1995 and that the involvement of the Dallas teachers makes them look forward to another successful Institute. The presentation made a positive impact on the faculty and the people present in attendance and have been motivation to act upon the inclusion of the program into their curriculum. McIntyre formally invites NTIEVA back to El Paso and present to the art specialists in the El Paso district and is looking forward to working with Davis and NTIEVA.
