Improved Measurement of CP Violation in Neutral BDecays to \ccbar s

Description: The authors present updated measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries in fully-reconstructed neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates containing a charmonium meson. The measurements use a data sample of (383 {+-} 4) x 10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory. They determine sin2{beta} = 0.714 {+-} 0.032(stat) {+-} 0.018(syst) and |{lambda}| = 0.952 {+-} 0.022(stat) {+-} 0.017(syst).

Measurements of the tau Mass and Mass Difference of the tau^+ and tau^- at BABAR

Description: The authors present the result of a precision measurement of the mass of the {tau} lepton, M{sub {tau}}, based on 423 fb{sup -1} of data recorded at the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. Using a pseudomass endpoint method, they determine the mass to be 1776.68 {+-} 0.12(stat) {+-} 0.41(syst) MeV. They also measure the mass difference between the {tau}{sup +} and {tau}{sup -}, and obtain (M{sub {tau}{sup +}} - M{sub {tau}{sup -}})/M{sub AVG}{sup {tau}} = (-3.4 {+-} 1.3(stat) {+-} 0.3(syst)) x 10{sup -4}, where M{sub AVG}{sup {tau}} is the average value of M{sub {tau}{sup +}} and M{sub {tau}{sup -}}.

Observation of B to eta' K* and Evidence for B+ to eta' rho+

Description: The authors presented an observation of B {yields} {eta}{prime}K*. The data sample corresponds to 232 million B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. They measure the branching fractions (in units of 10{sup -6}) {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {eta}{prime}K*{sup 0}) = 3.8 {+-} 1.1 {+-} 0.5 and {Beta}(B{sup +} {yields} {eta}{prime}K*{sup +}) = 4.9{sub -1.7}{sup +1.9} {+-} 0.8, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. A simultaneous fit results in the observation of B {yields} {eta}{prime}K* with {Beta}(B {yields} {eta}{prime}K*) = 4.1{sub -0.9}{sup +1.0} {+-} 0.5. They also search for B {yields} {eta}{prime}{rho} and {eta}{prime} f{sub 0}(980)(f{sub 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}) with results and 90% confidence level upper limits {Beta}(B{sup +} {yields} {eta}{prime}{rho}{sup +}) = 8.7{sub -2.8-1.3}{sup +3.1+2.3} (< 14), {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {eta}{prime}{rho}{sup 0}) < 3.7, and {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {eta}{prime} f{sub 0}(980)(f{sub 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})) < 1.5. Charge asymmetries in the channels with significant yields are consistent with zero.

Measurement of the B0 to D* D_s*+ and D_s+ to phi pi+ Branching Fractions

Description: The authors present measurements of the branching fractions {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup -}D*{sub s}{sup +}) and {Beta}(D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +}), based on 123 x 10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} B factory. A partial reconstruction technique is used to measure {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup -}D*{sub s}{sup +}) and the decay chain is fully reconstructed to measure the branching fraction product {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup -} D*{sub s}{sup +}) x {Beta}(D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +}). Comparing these two measurements provides a model-independent determination of the D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +} branching fraction. They obtain {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup -}D*{sub s}{sup +}) = (1.88 {+-} 0.09 {+-} 0.17)% and {Beta}(D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +}) = (4.81 {+-} 0.52 {+-} 0.38)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of D0 to K- pi+

Based on a data sample of 230 million B{bar B} pairs collected at the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, they obtain {Beta}(D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -}{pi}{sup +}) = (4.007 {+-} 0.037 {+-} 0.070)%, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

Measurement of the Branching Fraction and Time-Dependent CP Asymmetry in the Decay B0 to D*+D*-Ks

Description: The authors study the decay B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}D*{sup -} K{sub S}{sup 0} using (230 {+-} 2) x 10{sup 6} B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory. They measure a branching fraction {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}D*{sup -} K{sub S}{sup 0}) = (4.4 {+-} 0.4 {+-} 0.7) x 10{sup -3} and find evidence for the decay B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup -} D{sub s1}{sup +}(2536) with a statistical significance of 4.6 {sigma}. A time-dependent CP asymmetry analysis is also performed to study the possible resonant contributions to B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}D*{sup -} K{sub S}{sup 0} and the sign of cos2{beta}. Their measurement indicates that there is a sizable resonant contribution to the decay B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +} D*{sup -} K{sub S}{sup 0} from a unknown D{sub s1}{sup +} state with large width, and that cos2{beta} is positive at the 94% confidence level under certain theoretical assumptions.

Time-Dependent and Time-Integrated Angular Analysis of B -> phi Ks pi0 and B -> phi K+ pi-

Description: We perform a time-dependent and time-integrated angular analysis of the B{sup 0} {yields} {psi}K*(892){sup 0}, {psi}K*{sub 2}(1430{sup 0}), and {psi}(K{pi}){sub S-wave}{sup 0} decays with the final sample of about 465 million B{bar B} pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Overall, twelve parameters are measured for the vector-vector decay, nine parameters for the vector-tensor decay, and three parameters for the vector-scalar decay, including the branching fractions, CP-violation parameters, and parameters sensitive to final state interaction. We use the dependence on the K{pi} invariant mass of the interference between the scalar and vector or tensor components to resolve discrete ambiguities of the strong and weak phases. We use the time-evolution of the B {yields} {psi}K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0} channel to extract the CP-violation phase difference {Delta}{phi}{sub 00} = 0.28 {+-} 0.42 {+-} 0.04 between the B and {bar B} decay amplitudes. When the B {yields} {psi}K{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {-+}} channel is included, the fractions of longitudinal polarization f{sub L} of the vector-vector and vector-tensor decay modes are measured to be 0.494 {+-} 0.034 {+-} 0.013 and 0.901{sub -0.058}{sup +0.046} {+-} 0.037, respectively. This polarization pattern requires the presence of a helicity-plus amplitude in the vector-vector decay from a presently unknown source.
