A simplified method for evaluating jet-propulsion-system components in terms of airplane performance

Description: Report presenting a method to provide a simple means of comparing engine components on the basis of either range or the margin of thrust over drag. The equations include the variation in thrust coefficient and specific impulse and the change in engine weight and drag. Four general cases are considered: fixed-size airplanes with constant gross weight, fixed-size airplanes with variable gross weight, variable-size airplanes with constant payload weight, and variable-size airplanes with constant ratio of payload to gross weight.

Dual-band Microwave Device Design

Description: This thesis presents a brief introduction to microwave components and technology. It also presents two novel dual-band designs, their analysis, topology, simulation and fabrication. In chapter 2, a novel dual-band bandpass filter using asymmetric stub-loaded stepped-impedance resonators (SLSIRs) operating at 1 and 2.6 GHz is shown. This type of design applies suitable arrangements to improve the filter’s performance. Then, in chapter 3, a novel dual-band balun (transforms unbalanced input signals to balanced output signals or vice versa) operating at 1.1 and 2 GHz with flexible frequency ratios is presented, which has more advantages in microwave applications. Then, conclusion and future works are discussed in chapter 4.

The stress distribution in shell bodies and wings as an equilibrium problem

Description: This report treats the stress distribution in shell-shaped airplane components (fuselage, wings) as an equilibrium problem; it includes both cylindrical and non-cylindrical shells. In particular, it treats the stress distribution at the point of stress application and at cut-out points.

Preparation of system design descriptions

Description: A standard is presented which prescribes the purpose, scope, organization, and content of system design descriptions (SSD's), in order to promulgate a unified approach to their preparation and use by a project as the principal means to establish, describe, and control the individual system designs from conception and throughout the lifetime of the system. SDD's are comprehensive technical documents that specifically and completely define the design, including operation, maintenance, and reliability requirements, of individual systems which comprise a nuclear power plant or test facility. SDD's are prepared and maintained current by the responsible system designer and are the principal means of system design definition and control common to the designer and the other participating organizations responsible for the project. Transportation of critical components and equipment

Description: A standard is presented which covers recommended practices in the planning, coordination, and administration of shipments of critical components and equipment for nuclear facilities. The standard supplements and is additive to the rules and regulations of freight classifications and tariffs governing carriers and shipping, and has the purpose of minimizing the liklihood of physical damage or deterioration of critical components and equipment due to collision, upset, shock, vibration, corrosion, or other conditions of the transport environment.
