Effect of Heat-Capacity Lag on a Variety of Turbine-Nozzle Flow Processes

Description: Note presenting the computation of the effect of heat-capacity lag in the adiabatic expansion of a gas through a turbine nozzle computed using a one-dimensional analysis of a representative flow process. A number of parameter variations in the flow process are considered to determine the factors that amplify this effect and to show the magnitude of the deviation from equilibrium conditions.

Limnology of Lago Loiza, Puerto Rico

Description: From purpose and study: The principal objectives of this study were as follows: (1) to determine the existing water-quality conditions in Lago Loiza as reflected by the principal chemical, physical, biological and bacteriological characteristics in the lake and its tributaries. (2) To estimate the reservoir's water budget during the study period, including the contributions from the tributaries and other sources. (3) Estimation of the reservoir's overall nitrogen and phosphorus budget, includin… more

Thermal Conductivity of Uranium-Chromium and Uranium-Iron Eutectic Alloys

Description: Report discussing measurements of thermal conductivity and heat capacity for uranium-chromium and uranium-iron eutectic alloys at room temperature. The resulting values were intended for use in design calculations until more accurate data at other temperatures was obtained.

Enthalpies and Heat Capacities of Solid and Molten Fluoride Mixtures

Description: The enthalpies and heat capacities of seventeen fluoride mixtures in the liquid state have been determined using Bunsen Ice Calorimeters and copper block calorimeters. The fluoride mixtures were composed of the fluorides of two or more of the following metals: lithium, sodium, potassium, beryllium, zirconium, and uranium. The enthalpies and heat capacities of most of these mixtures were studied in the solid state also. Estimates of the heat of fusion have been made. General empirical equations … more

A Physical Property Summary for Fluoride Mixtures

Description: This report presents a summary of certain physical properties that have been determined experimentally on the fluoride mixture that have been formulated at ORNL (Rers. 1, 2). These properties include the density, enthalpy, heat capacity, heat of fusion, thermal conductivity, viscosity, Prandtl number, electrical conductivity and surface tension. In addition to the experimental data, values have been predicted for the heat capacity and density of the other mixtures from the correlations of these… more

Generalized selection charts for bombers powered by one, two, four, and six 3000-horsepower engines 1: capacity and economy

Description: Supplement using data from a previous report to show the cargo that can be carried at various ranges, pounds of cargo that can be carried per pound of fuel, and other graphs to simplify the problem of determining which cargo can be carried at any range. The assumptions, parameters, and equations from the original report are carried over in the supplement.

Effects of Heat-Capacity Lag in Gas Dynamics

Description: Report presenting an investigation of the existence of energy dissipations in gas dynamics, which must be attributed to a lag in the vibrational heat capacity of the gas, and most specifically the flow about a very small impact tube. A new method of measuring the relaxation time of gases is introduced in which the total-head defects observed with a specially shaped impact tube are compared with theoretical considerations.
