Aperture studies for the AP2 anti-proton Line at Fermilab

Description: The AP2 beamline transports anti-protons from the production target to the Debuncher ring. For many years the observed aperture has been smaller than that estimated from linear, on-energy optics. A Degaussing Procedure for the QG01 Quadrupole Magnet

Description: This note describes a degaussing procedure for the QG01 Quadrupole Magnet of the LCLS Injector Beamline and some relevant observations made during the development and testing of this procedure. An important observation is that care must be taken not to cause a current spike when the power supply to the magnet is switched off.

Commissioning of BL 7.2, the new diagnostic beam line at the ALS

Description: BL 7.2 is a new beamline at the Advanced Light Source (ALS) of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) dedicated to electron beam diagnostics. The system, which is basically a hard x-ray pinhole camera, was installed in the storage ring in August 2003 and commissioning with the ALS electron beam followed immediately after. In this paper the commissioning results are presented together with the description of the relevant measurements performed for the beamline characterization.

The first synchrotron infrared beamlines at the Advanced Light Source: Spectromicroscopy and fast timing

Description: Two recently commissioned infrared beamlines on the 1.4 bending magnet port at the Advanced Light Source, LBNL, are described. Using a synchrotron as an IR source provides three primary advantages: increased brightness, very fast light pulses, and enhanced far-IR flux. Femtosecond x-ray pulses from a synchrotron

Description: An important frontier in ultrafast science is the application of femtosecond x-ray pulses to the study of structural dynamics in condensed matter. We show that femtosecond laser pulses can be used to generate high-brightness, tunable, femtosecond x-ray pulses from a synchrotron. Performance of existing and proposed femtosecond x-ray beamlines at the Advanced Light Source synchrotron are discussed.

Spatial resolution limits for synchrotron-based spectromicroscopy in the mid- and near-infrared

Description: Spatial resolution tests were performed on beamline 1.4.4 at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley, CA, USA, a third-generation synchrotron light source. This beamline couples the high-brightness synchrotron source to a Thermo-Electron Continumum XL infrared microscope. Two types of resolution tests were performed in both the mid-IR and near-IR. The SLS optics beamline

Description: A multipurpose beamline for tests and developments in the field of x-ray optics and synchrotron radiation instrumentation in general is under construction at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) bending magnet X05DA. Noise reduction efforts for the ALS infrared beamlines

Description: The quality of infrared microscopy and spectroscopy data collected at synchrotron based sources is strongly dependent on signal-to-noise. Top-Off Safety Analysis for NSLS-II

Description: Top-off injection will be adopted in NSLS-II. To ensure no injected beam can pass into experimental beamlines with open photon shutters during top-off injection, simulation studies for possible machine fault scenarios are required. We compare two available simulation methods, backward (H. Nishimura-LBL) and forward tracking (A. Terebilo-SLAC). We also discuss the tracking settings, fault scenarios, apertures and interlocks considered in the analysis.

A dedicated superbend x-ray microdiffraction beamline for materials, geo-, and environmental sciences at the advanced light source

Description: A new facility for microdiffraction strain measurements and microfluorescence mapping has been built on beamline 12.3.2 at the advanced light source of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
