Flux and Photon Spectral Index Distributions of Fermi-LAT Blazars and Contribution to the Extragalactic Gamma-ray Background

Description: We present a determination of the distributions of gamma-ray flux - the so called LogN-LogS relation - and photon spectral index for the 352 blazars detected with a greater than approximately seven sigma detection threshold and located above {+-} 20{sup o} Galactic latitude by the Large Area Telescope of the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope in its first year catalog. Because the flux detection threshold depends on the photon index, the observed raw distributions do not provide the true LogN-LogS… more

MADmap: A Massively Parallel Maximum-Likelihood Cosmic Microwave Background Map-Maker

Description: MADmap is a software application used to produce maximum-likelihood images of the sky from time-ordered data which include correlated noise, such as those gathered by Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) experiments. It works efficiently on platforms ranging from small workstations to the most massively parallel supercomputers. Map-making is a critical step in the analysis of all CMB data sets, and the maximum-likelihood approach is the most accurate and widely applicable algorithm; however, it is… more

Direct And Reprocessed Gamma-Ray Emission of Kpc-Scale Jets in FR I Radio Galaxies

Description: We discuss the contribution of kiloparsec-scale jets in FR I radio galaxies to the diffuse {gamma}-ray background radiation. The analyzed {gamma}-ray emission comes from inverse-Compton scattering of starlight photon fields by the ultrarelativistic electrons whose synchrotron radiation is detected from such sources at radio, optical and X-ray energies. We find that these objects, under the minimum-power hypothesis (corresponding to a magnetic field of 300 {micro}G in the brightest knots of thes… more

LRL background measurements program for ICBM discrimination

Description: Several proposals have been made for discriminating between Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) and decoys. Primary fundamental particles or high energy electromagnetic radiation can be scattered from or can activate the targets. The secondary radiation is observed by directional detectors that are positioned close-by and the information is transmitted to control centers on the ground. Lawrence Livermore Laboratory proposes a program for measurements of the natural space radiations. Even… more
