Description: They received their letter and happy to hear they are doing well. She mentions that her family is also well. She then talks about the weather they have been having. Although it has been raining the springs and wells are going dry. Abe had a well drilled close to the house, but could not keep it close to the house because of gas. A new well was between the barn and the spring, but again there was gas in it. Florence was watching a little girl. Mat Nay or Mat Frankland died. She mentions that owls have been taking her turkeys. Dinky sold her other cow. She comments on Linnet being so helpful and Birdie as well. She asks that they write soon. Alice writes about the subjects she is learning in school and how she wishes Linnet was there to play with her and Birdie. She mentions that her mother is going to town and what happened to Mary Dodd in the orchard.

Description: She is glad to hear they are doing well. She also mentions that they are doing well now. They had a case of flux and there are some cases of small pox in town. They are almost done with harvesting the wheat. Oat harvesting is almost here and the corn is looking well. They have irish potatoes, and they will have tomatoes soon. She had about a hundred chickens, but some were appropriated. She has seven turkeys. She learned from Em that Smith Johnson died, Malald Johnson's husband. Em had also said that things had been left in bad circumstances and asks that they write to Mrs. Johnson. Em also heard that White River had overflowed. She tells Sis not to worry about her coming to Texas that she wants to go because she is not happy with her current situation. She is expecting family to come, but she is going to her sister's instead. She tells Sis not to mention it in her letters because her husbands reads them. Her father has been trying to buy her a place, but has been unsuccessful. She asks what Linnet and Birdie feed the chickens and says that Bettie's baby is pretty. She asks that they write soon.

He traded some firewood for some flour. Dinkie McGee gave family news, what she had for dinner, and how she has finished all her sewing. She said that Joe McGee killed himself. William Dodd also attached a note to the letter
