ORNL process waste treatment plant modifications

Description: The ORNL Process Waste Treatment Plant removes low levels of radionuclides (primarily Cs-137 and Sr-90) from process waste water prior to discharge. The previous plant operation used a scavenging precipitaton - ion exchange process which produced a radioactive sludge. In order to eliminate the environmental problems associated with sludge disposal, the plant is being converted to a new ion exchange process without the precipitation process.

Pulse coil concepts for the LCP Facility

Description: The pulse coils described in this paper are resistive copper magnets driven by time-varying currents. They are included in the Large Coil Test Facility (LCTF) portion of the Large Coil Program (LCP) to simulate the pulsed field environment of the toroidal coils in a tokamak reactor. Description: The structural design and operational aspects of the ISX-B differentially pumped bellows assembly are discussed. Hydrogeochemical and stream sediment reconnaissance basic data for Corpus Christi NTMS quadrangle, Texas

Description: Results of a reconnaissance geochemical survey of the Corpus Christi Quadrangle, Texas, are reported. Field and laboratory data are presented for 119 groundwater samples and 57 stream sediment samples. Also included is a brief discussion on the geology and hydrology of the quadrangle. Groundwater data indicate that uranium concentrations above the 85th percentile occur primarily in a trend in western Nueces County. Maximum likelihood estimation for cytogenetic dose-response curves

Description: In vitro dose-response curves are used to describe the relation between the yield of dicentric chromosome aberrations and radiation dose for human lymphocytes. The dicentric yields follow the Poisson distribution, and the expected yield depends on both the magnitude and the temporal distribution of the dose for low LET radiation. Criticality analyses of disrupted core models of Three Mile Island Unit 2

Description: Three hypothetical disrupted core models were analyzed for the President's Commission on the Accident at Three Mile Island. Soluble boron in the present configuration was assumed to be 3180 weight parts per million (wppM). Thermal-hydraulic differential sensitivity theory. [LMFBR]
