This method provides a rapid and accurate way of determining the element in solutions free from interfering ions. Application of the method to analysis of pure uranium compounds and to uranium recovered from contaminated solutions by suitable procedures is briefly discussed."

Progress Report - Project 31: Vapor Phase Chlorination of TO₃

Description: "This work is a continuation of an investigation begun in January, 1945, on a laboratory study of various methods for the chlorination of TO3. The work carried out this month deals entirely with gas phase chlorination, the liquid phase chlorination of TO3 having been turned over to Miss Hubbard. Gas phase chlorination of TO3 by means of CCl4, S2Cl2, SOCl2, SO2Cl2, and Cl2 have been carried out under varying conditions in the several different types of reactors."

Resonance Absorption of Thorium

Description: Abstract: Cadmium ratios for very thin (neutron and beta-wise) foils of thorium, gold, vanadium and indium have been measured in the glory hole of the WBNS. These cadmium ratios, together with the known thermal cross sections and a given calculated resonance integral for gold, were used to evaluare the resonance integrals of thorium, vanadium, and indium.

Dissolution of NaK

Description: Abstract: "A rapid yet safe method for the dissolution of sodium-potassium alloys prior to chemical or instrumental analysis has been devised. The alloy is submerged beneath the surface of an inert organic reagent and dissolved at a controlled rate by adding methanol drop-by-drop. A blanket of inert gas is maintained over the reaction flask. The procedure has been successfully used to dissolve samples of NaK in the range of 0.05 to 25 grams."
