Diffractive hadron dissociation at 100 and 200 GeV

Description: The M/sup 2//sub x/ and t dependence of the reaction h + p ..-->.. X + p (h = ..pi../sup +-/, K/sup +-/, p/sup +-/) were measured at incident momenta of 100 and 200 GeV/c in the kinematic region 0.025 < parallel t parallel < 0.095 (GeV/c)/sup 2/ and M/sup 2//sub x//s < 0.1. The differential cross sections are exponential in t, vary predominantly as 1/m/sup 2//sub x/, and agree well with factorization rules. Eigenmodes of classical fluids in thermal equilibrium

Description: The eigenmodes of a classical fluid in thermal equilibrium are discussed. For long wavelengths and times, they can be computed from linear hydrodynamic equations. They are then the hydrodynamic modes, in particular, the heat mode, which describes the diffusion of heat in the fluid and two sound modes. For short wavelengths and times they can be derived from linear kinetic operators. Specifically, instead of characterizing the genes encoding the small subunit of RuBP carboxylase and the chlorophyll a/b binding polypeptide from corn, these genes from pea are being characterized. Electroproduction of large-transverse-momentum gluon jets

Description: Electroproduction of gluons by the QCD Compton process is calculated for e-p colliders and compared with photoproduction. The cross section is large enough to detect, producing more than 1000 events with P/sub T/ > 25 GeV/c in a reasonable run. A polarization dependence of the cross section, predicted by Devoto, Pumplin, Repko and Kane, will be hard to observe unless the Compton events can be extracted from the background at lower P/sub T/.
