Status of the SNAP-50 reactor fuels parametric studies. Part I

Description: Declassified 6 Sep 1973. Results of the parametric study are given for both present and advanced capability (2 and 8 MW). Fuels which result in minimum reactor weights are UC/UN (95% dense), UC/UN--1W for the 2 MW design, UC/ UN-1W for 8 MW. Effects of fuel clad and fuel maximum temperature on the reactor weight were also studied. Recommendations are made for the 2-MW SNAP-50/ SPUR fuel element development and reactor design program, and for additional parametric studies. (DLC)

Status of materials development in support of PWAR-20

Description: Declassified 31 Aug 1973. The PWAR-20 reactor and shield are being developed for the SNAP-50/SPUR power plant (300-kW(e), 10,000 h). Clad UC and UN were irradiated; swelling and gas release were measured. Nb-1 Zr, D-43, and T- 111 were also evaluated. (DLC)
