Historical Review of Uranium-Vanadium Production in the Eastern Carrizo Mountains, San Juan County, New Mexico, and Apache County, Arizona

Description: Introduction: This report is a brief review of the uranium and/or vanadium mining in the eastern Carrizo Mountains, San Juan County, New Mexico and Apache County, Arizona. It was prepared at the request of the Navajo Tribe, the New Mexico Energy and Minerals Department, and the Arizona Bureau of Geology and Mineral Technology. As this report deals only with historical production data, the reader is referred to reports by Blagbrough and Brown (1955), Masters and others (1955), and Stokes (1951, 1954) for descriptions of the geology and ore deposits. Figure 1 shows the locations of the mines and the production is summarized in Table 1 and Figure 2. A separate report (Chenoweth and Learned, 1980) covers the production history of the northern and western Carrizo Mountains.

Uranium in Coal

Description: Introduction: Anticipated uranium requirements of nuclear power plants have prompted many organizations to examine the possibility of recovering uranium from low-grade sources such as shale, phosphate, sea water, and coal. Coal has generated special interest because some uranium was recovered from uranium-bearing carbonaceous rock in the mid-1960s. About 5,000 samples of coal have been analyzed for uranium by the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Bureau of Mines, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration, and numerous state and private agencies.

Aerial Gamma Ray and Magnetic Survey, Raton Basin Project, The Flagstaff Quadrangle of Arizona: Final Report, Volume 1

Description: From Operations: For the Flagstaff quadrangle, a total of 1930 line miles, excluding reflights and overlaps and missing data were flown by the Tracker and 1348 line miles were flown by the helicopter. The production summary presented below and the detailed daily production in Appendix B describes half of the total project. The Raton Basin Project, of which this quadrangle is a part, covered five other 10 x 2 quadrangles which was or will be covered in separate reports.

Uranium Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance in Southwestern Montana

Description: From introduction: This report presents data gathered in a Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) conducted by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL) in southwestern Montana. The HSSR was initiated by the US Department of Energy (DOE) to outline areas favorable for uranium exploration by examining uranium concentrations in natural waters and stream sediments.
