Radioactive Manganese Occurrences in the Lower Rio Itapicurú Valley, Bahia, Brazil

Description: From abstract: Radioactive manganese deposits have been found in two swamps and at one locality on the northeast bank of the Rio Itapicuru near Mosquete, municipio of Itapicuru, State of Bahia, Brazil. The occurrences are related to warm springs and consist of surficial manganiferous sinter and of sandstone impregnated with manganese.

An Investigation of the Use of Acoustic Vibrations to Improve Heat Transfer Rates and Reduce Scaling in Distillation Units Used for Saline Water Conversion

Description: Report presenting a study to determine the feasibility of using acoustical energy to improve the economy of evaporator operation as related to saline water conservation. Some of the improvements to be sought are increased film heat transfer coefficients on the water side, possible promotion of dropwise condensation on the steam side, and reduced scale formation.

Diffusion Still Analysis

Description: Report describing a diffusion still for desalination of water, which produces pure water at temperatures below the boiling point by diffusion in the presence of air. The principal advantage of the concept is great mechanical simplicity, requiring neither high vapor pressure nor vacuum equipment.

Fluidized Bed Reactor Study: Phase I - Feasibility

Description: From abstract: The Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR) consists of a bed of fuel pellets which circulate in a confined core region as the result of the upward flow of fluid through the particles. In the present concept the fluid acts as a fluidizing, coolant and reactor moderator medium. This report is the results of the Phase I study to determine the feasibility of this concept.

ANPP Code Development Program: An Experimental Program on Water-Moderated Arrays of Uranium and Stainless Steel

Description: From summary: This report describes an experimental study performed on critical arrays of water-moderated, flat plate, laminated fuel bundles. The experiments were performed in support of analytical studies undertaken in the ANPP Code Development Program. The fuel bundles were built up using fully enriched uranium metal foils, stainless steel plates and boron stainless steel plates.

PM-1 Reactor Core Final Design Report

Description: From introduction: This report presents and evaluates the final design of the reactor core for the PM-1 Nuclear Power Plant. The design criteria required a pressurized water cooled and moderated core with a two-year life at design power and a positive shutdown margin under all conditions with either one control rod stuck completely out or with two control rods stuck in the operating condition.

Mechanical Properties of Selected Alloys at Elevated Temperatures [Part 1]

Description: Report describing a research study to provide material property data of the type and quality necessary for efficient design of hot aircraft and missile structural components. Six materials in plate and bar form were subjected to tension, compression, bearing, and shear stresses at various temperatures. Preliminary considerations of the study, testing apparatus, calibration and accuracy of the equipment, testing procedures and results are discussed.
