D and B meson spectroscopy, new states, baryons at the Tevatron

Description: We review recent results in heavy quark hadron spectroscopy at the Tevatron. With increasing data samples, the Tevatron experiments start to uncover information on the spectroscopy of b-hadrons. Most important are the first observations of the narrow B**{sub s}{sup 0} as well as {Sigma}{sub b}{sup {+-}}, {Sigma}*{sub b}{sup {+-}} and {Xi}{sub b}{sup -} baryons. In addition we present updated results on the narrow B**{sup 0} and B{sub c} mesons.

Charmonium Spectroscopy (X,Y,Z) at the B Factories

Description: Since 2003 several states in the charmonium mass region were discovered. While in the conventional c{bar c} spectrum some states are missing, the number of states observed up to now is larger than empty spaces in the c{bar c} spectrum. This, together with other difficulties to explain observed states as a c{bar c} mesons triggered discussions on a possible exotic interpretations. In this proceedings we present current experimental status from B-factories of the so called X, Y and Z states.

Study of $B^{0}_{s} \rightarrow D_s^{(*)+}D_s^{(*)-}$ and $B^{0}_{s} \rightarrow \phi\phi$ Decays at CDF

Description: Under certain theoretical assumptions, the branching fraction of B{sub s}{sup 0} {yields} D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}{sup (*)-} is directly sensitive to the relative decay width difference {Delta}{Lambda}{sub s}{sup CP}/{Lambda}{sub s} in the B{sub s}{sup 0} system, which is predicted to be sizable in the standard model. Using approximately 4 fb{sup -1} of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron p{bar p} collider, the CDF collaboration is currently performing an exclusive selection… more

Search for electroweak single top quark production with CDF

Description: We report on a search for Standard Model t-channel and s-channel single top quark production in p{bar p} collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. We use a data sample corresponding to 162 pb{sup -1} recorded by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. We find no significant evidence for electroweak top quark production and set upper limits at the 95% confidence level on the production cross section, consistent with the Standard Model: 10.1 pb for the t-channel, 13.6 pb for the s-ch… more

FastNLO: Fast pQCD calculations for PDF fits

Description: We present a method for very fast repeated computations of higher-order cross sections in hadron-induced processes for arbitrary parton density functions. A full implementation of the method for computations of jet cross sections in Deep-Inelastic Scattering and in Hadron-Hadron Collisions is offered by the ''fastNLO'' project.

Tools for grid deployment of CDF offline and SAM data handling systems for summer 2004 computing

Description: The Fermilab CDF Run-II experiment is now providing official support for remote computing, which has provided approximately 35% of the total CDF computing capacity during the summer of 2004. We face the challenge of unreliable networks, time differences, and remote managers having little experience with this particular software. The approach we have taken has been to separate the data handling components from the main CDF offline code releases by means of shared libraries, permitting live upgra… more

The SAMGrid database server component: its upgraded infrastructure and future development path

Description: The SAMGrid Database Server encapsulates several important services, such as accessing file metadata and replica catalog, keeping track of the processing information, as well as providing the runtime support for SAMGrid station services. Recent deployment of the SAMGrid system for CDF has resulted in unification of the database schema used by CDF and D0, and the complexity of changes required for the unified metadata catalog has warranted a complete redesign of the DB Server. We describe here t… more

SAMGrid integration of SRMs

Description: SAMGrid is the shared data handling framework of the two large Fermilab Run II collider experiments: DZero and CDF. In production since 1999 at D0, and going into production at CDF, the SAMGrid framework has been adapted over time to accommodate a variety of storage solutions and configurations, as well as the differing data processing models of these two experiments. This has been very successful for both experiments. Backed by primary data repositories of approximately 1 PB in size for each e… more

TCT and test beam results of irradiated magnetic Czochralski silicon (MCz-Si) detectors

Description: Pad and strip detectors processed on high resistivity n-type magnetic Czochralski silicon (MCz-Si) were irradiated to several different fluences with protons. The pad detectors were characterized with the transient current technique (TCT) and the full-size strip detectors with a reference beam telescope and a 225 GeV muon beam. The TCT measurements indicate a double junction structure and space charge sign inversion in MCz-Si detectors after 6x1014 1 MeV neq/cm2 fluence. In the beam test a sign… more

Comparative Study of Various Algorithms for the Merging of Parton Showers and Matrix Elements in Hadronic Collisions

Description: We compare different procedures for combining fixed-order tree-level matrix-element generators with parton showers. We use the case of W-production at the Tevatron and the LHC to compare different implementations of the so-called CKKW and MLM schemes using different matrix-element generators and different parton cascades. We find that although similar results are obtained in all cases, there are important differences.

Testing the CDF distributed computing framework

Description: A major source of CPU power for CDF (Collider Detector at Fermilab) is the CAF (Central Analysis Farm) [1] at Fermilab. The CAF is a farm of computers running Linux with access to the CDF data handling system and databases to allow CDF collaborators to run batch analysis jobs. Beside providing CPU power it has a good monitoring tool. The CAF software is a wrapper around a batch system, either fbsng [3] or condor, to submit jobs in a uniform way. So the submission to the CAF clusters inside and … more

Averages of B-Hadron Properties at the End of 2005

Description: This article reports world averages for measurements on b-hadron properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using the available results as of at the end of 2005. In the averaging, the input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and all known correlations are taken into account. The averages include lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, branching fractions of B decays to final states with ope… more

A Standard format for Les Houches event files

Description: A standard file format is proposed to store process and event information, primarily output from parton-level event generators for further use by general-purpose ones. The information content is identical with what was already defined by the Les Houches Accord five years ago, but then in terms of Fortran commonblocks. This information is embedded in a minimal XML-style structure, for clarity and to simplify parsing.

Measurement of the J/psi meson and b-hadron production cross sections in p anti-p collisions at s(NN)**(1/2) = 1960-GeV

Description: We present a new measurement of the inclusive and differential production cross sections of J/{psi} mesons and b-hadrons in proton-antiproton collisions at {radical}s = 1960 GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 39.7 pb{sup -1} collected by the CDF Run II detector. We find the integrated cross section for inclusive J/{psi} production for all transverse momenta from 0 to 20 GeV/c in the rapidity range |y| < 0.6 to be 4.08 {+-} 0.02(stat){sub -0.33}{sup +0.36}(syst) {mu}b.
