Array automated assembly: Phase 2. Quarterly report

Description: An analysis was made of cost trade-offs for shaping modified square wafers from cylindrical crystals. For reasonably expectable silicon and sheet costs, the optimum shape will be nearer a circle than a square. Tests were conducted of the effectiveness of texture etching for removal of surface damage on sawed wafers. Four glass systems have survived preliminary screening tests for use as edge masking dielectrics. These include beta-spodumen, MgO-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ borosilicate, baria and titania … more

Array automated assembly. Phase 2: quarterly report for the quarter ending September 30, 1978

Description: Problems with excessive junction shunting previously reported were found to be associated with a malfunction discovered in one of the printers. Aluminum contamination of the front surface and junction edge were also identified as sources of shunting, as was damage to the tetrahedral peaks during handling of diffused wafers. Additional compositional variations of titania precipitated and baria--magnesia borosilicate glasses were prepared to improve fusion and maturation characteristics. An inten… more

Array Automated Assembly, Phase 2. Quarterly report for the quarter ending June 30, 1978

Description: The Automated Array Assembly Task is a process development task. The overall goal is to advance solar cell and module process technology to meet the 1986 goal of a production capacity of 500 megawatts per year at a cost of less than $500 per kilowatt. Work performed during the quarter ending June 30, 1978 is covered. Discussions are included on diffusion masking dielectric evaluation, P/sup +/ back surface fields formed by firing screen printed aluminum back contacts, screen printable glass sys… more

Array automated assembly. Phase 2. Quarterly report for period ending March 31, 1979

Description: Research on the technology readiness of a proposed process sequence for the low-cost fabrication of photovoltaic modules is described. Integration of the process sequence using non-textured 2.125 inch square wafers was initiated during this period. Considerable difficulties were encountered requiring process and material modifications. These include: (1) replacement of N-250 spray-on diffusion source with PX-10 source; and (2) modification of the firing cycles for printed silver and printed alu… more

Risk Management Study for the Retired Hanford Site Facilities. Volume 2, Risk Evaluation Work Procedure for the Retired Hanford Site Facilities

Description: Risk from retired surplus facilities has always been assumed to be low at the Hanford Site as the facilities are inactive and have few potentials for causing an offsite hazardous material release. However, the fatal accident that occurred in the spring of 1992 in which an employee fell through a deteriorated roof at the 105-F Reactor Building has raised the possibility that retired facilities represent a greater risk than was originally assumed. Therefore, Westinghouse Hanford Company and the US… more

Risk management study for the retired Hanford Site facilities: Risk management executive summary. Volume 1

Description: This document provides a cost-comparison evaluation for implementing certain risk-reduction measures and their effect on the overall risk of the 100 and 200 Area retired, surplus facilities. The evaluation is based on conditions that existed at the time the risk evaluation team performed facility investigations, and does not acknowledge risk-reduction measures that occurred soon after risk identification. This evaluation is one part of an overall risk management study for these facilities. The … more

Risk management study for the retired Hanford Site facilities: Qualitative risk evaluation for the retired Hanford Site facilities. Volume 3

Description: This document provides a risk evaluation of the 100 and 200 Area retired, surplus facilities on the Hanford Site. Also included are the related data that were compiled by the risk evaluation team during investigations performed on the facilities. Results are the product of a major effort performed in fiscal year 1993 to produce qualitative information that characterizes certain risks associated with these facilities. The retired facilities investigated for this evaluation are located in the 100… more

Array Automated Assembly: Phase 2. Quarterly Report for Period Ending March 31, 1978.

Description: Surface topography of texturized solar cells was investigated., No significant differences were found between high output and low output cells with a common texturizing treatment. Differences were found between high output and low output cells with a common texturizing treatment. Differences were found associated with variation in the damage removal etch prior to texturizing.

Westinghouse Hanford Company risk management strategy for retired surplus facilities

Description: This paper describes an approach that facilitates management of personnel safety and environmental release risk from retired, surplus Westinghouse Hanford Company-managed facilities during the predemolition time frame. These facilities are located in the 100 and 200 Areas of the 1,450-km{sup 2} (570-mi{sup 2}) Hanford Site in Richland, Washington. The production reactors are located in the 100 Area and the chemical separation facilities are located in the 200 Area. This paper also includes a de… more
