W{sup {plus_minus}} and Z{sup 0} event rates and background estimates for the STAR detector at RHIC in pp collisions

Description: The estimates for W{sup {plus_minus}} and Z{sup 0} production rates and various background contributions in the STAR detector with the barrel electromagnetic calorimeter are presented. These results were obtained by Monte-Carlo simulations with the PYTHIA V5.6/JETSET V7.3 of the LUND set of routines and GEANT V3.15.

Drell-Yan pairs, W{plus_minus} and Z{sup 0} event rates and background at RHIC

Description: The estimates for the Drell-Yan pairs, W{sup {+-}} and Z{sup 0} acceptances and event rates in the STAR and PHENIX detectors at RHIC are presented. The background to W{sup {+-}} in STAR evaluated. The results were obtained by Monte-Carlo simulations with the PYTHIA/JETSET and GEANT programs. 10 refs., 3 figs., 3 tabs.

Expected accuracy in a measurement of the CKM angle alpha using a Dalitz plot analysis of B0 ---> rho pi decays in the BTeV project

Description: A precise measurement of the angle {alpha} in the CKM triangle is very important for a complete test of Standard Model. A theoretically clean method to extract {alpha} is provided by B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{pi} decays. Monte Carlo simulations to obtain the BTeV reconstruction efficiency and to estimate the signal to background ratio for these decays were performed. Finally the time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis, using the isospin amplitude formalism for tre and penguin contributions, was carri… more

Recent developments on the STAR detector system at RHIC

Description: The STAR detector system is designed to provide tracking, momentum analysis and particle identification for many of the mid-rapidity charged particles produced in collisions at the RHIC collider. A silicon vertex detector (SVT) provides three layers of tracking near the interaction point. This is followed by the main time projection chamber (TPC), which continues tracking out to 200 cm radial distance from the interaction region. The detector design also includes an electromagnetic calorimeter,… more

The STAR Time Project Chamber

Description: Paper presented at the International Conference on Ultra-Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions (1999) reporting on the progress of the STAR experiment, a complex system of many detector sub-systems which have been installed in a large solenoidal magnet at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC).
