Report of the QCD Working Group

Description: We discuss some current problems associated with the applications of QCD to event rates in high energy collisions. Emphasis is given to the current ambiguities and uncertainties that exist in estimates of signals and backgrounds. The production of jets and isolated photons at hadron colliders is discussed in some detail. The problems of jet definition are addressed. Some features of the events underlying the hard scattering process are discussed. 72 refs., 32 figs., 3 tabs.

Identification of hadronic tau decays in ATLAS

Description: Taus can be an important signature for Supersymmetry at the LHC. They can be produced copiously in the decays of supersymmetric particles. Measurement of their momentum and of the tau-tau invariant mass distribution, would provide detailed information regarding the masses of supersymmetric particles. It is demonstrated using full simulation that it will be possible for ATLAS to make a cut on the reconstructed tau invariant mass using information from the tracking and the electromagnetic calorim… more

Precision SUSY measurements at LHC:Point 3

Description: This paper, which is one of a series, presents detailed studies of mass reconstructions and other measurements in a case study illustrating the power of the ATLAS detector to perform measurements of supersymmetric particle production. A particular point in the parameter space of the Minimal Supergravity inspired model is used. Reconstruction of gluino, sbottom and light squarks and the measurement of neutral ion mass differences is shown.

Exotic Physics: Search for New Physics Leading to High Mass Tau Pairs With ppbar Collisions at 1.96 TeV Using Cdf Ii

Description: Abstract: We present the results of a search for anomalous resonant production of tau lepton pairs with large invariant mass, the first such search using the CDF II Detector in Run II of the Tevatron p{bar p} collider. Such anomalous production could arise from various new physics processes. In a data sample corresponding to 195 pb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity we predict 2.8 {+-} 0.5 events from Standard Model background processes and observe 4. We use this result to set limits on the produ… more
