Evaluation of the self-calibrating thermocouple as a front end to a smart temperature measurement system
Description: An evaluation of the novel self-calibrating thermocouple was performed to determine whether the sensor would be acceptable as a front end to a smart temperature measurement system. The evaluation consisted of a fast-ramp test, long-term drift tests, and physical examinations including X rays, microphotography, and energy-dispersive spectrometry. The results of the tests show that the sensor is a viable industrial-grade device worthy for use in this application. However, recommendations for improving fabrication of the assembly are made and caveats are given for conditions that may constrain the use of the sensor in certain situations. 4 refs., 17 figs., 1 tab.
