Atmospheric Dispersion Capability for T2VOC

Description: Atmospheric transport by variable-K theory dispersion has been added to T2VOC. The new code, T2VOCA, models flow and transport in the subsurface identically to T2VOC, but includes also the capability for modeling passive multicomponent variable-K theory dispersion in an atmospheric region assumed to be flat, horizontal, and with a logarithmic wind profile. Higher-order differencing for phase-front propagation in geothermal systems

Description: We are testing higher-order differencing total variation diminishing schemes implemented in the reservoir simulator TOUGH2 to reduce numerical dispersion of phase fronts in geothermal flow problems. CO{sub 2} injection for enhanced gas production and carbon sequestration

Description: Analyses suggest that carbon dioxide (CO{sub 2}) can be injected into depleted gas reservoirs to enhance methane (CH{sub 4}) recovery for periods on the order of 10 years, while simultaneously sequestering large amounts of CO{sub 2}. Simulations applicable to the Rio Vista Gas Field in California show that mixing between CO{sub 2} and CH{sub 4} is slow relative to repressurization, and that vertical density stratification favors enhanced gas recovery.

Ferrofluid flow for TOUGH2

Description: We have developed EOS7M, a ferrofluid flow and transport module for TOUGH2. EOS7M calculates the magnetic forces on ferrofluid caused by an external magnetic field and allows simulation of flow and advective transport of ferrofluid-water mixtures through porous media.
