Residual Life and Strength Predictions and Life-Enhancement of Structures

Description: In this paper, a method to quantitatively evaluate the T{sub {var_epsilon}}* integral directly from the measured near-tip displacement field for laboratory specimens made of metallic materials, is presented. This is the first time that such an attempt became a success. In order to develop the procedure, we carefully examine the nature of T{sub {var_epsilon}}* Hence, the nature of T{sub {var_epsilon}}* is further revealed. Following Okada and Atluri (1997), the relationship between energy balanc… more

Measurement of the Analyzing Power in PP Elastic Scattering in the Peak CNI Region at RHIC

Description: The analyzing power A{sub N} for pp elastic scattering is expected to reach a peak value of 0.045 in the Coulomb Nuclear Interference (CNI) region at a momentum transfer -t of 0.003 (GeV/c){sup 2}. During the 2004 RHIC Run, we completed a measurement of A{sub N} in the CNI region by detecting the recoil protons from pp elastic scattering using a polarized atomic hydrogen gas jet target and the 100 GeV RHIC proton beam. We report the first measurements of the A{sub N} absolute value and shape in… more

Absolute Polarimetry at RHIC

Description: Precise and absolute beam polarization measurements are critical for the RHIC spin physics program. Because all experimental spin-dependent results are normalized by beam polarization, the normalization uncertainty contributes directly to final physics uncertainties. We aimed to perform the beam polarization measurement to an accuracy Of {Delta}P{sub beam}/P{sub beam} < 5%. The absolute polarimeter consists of Polarized Atomic Hydrogen Gas Jet Target and left-right pairs of silicon strip det… more

Run-08 Pc Polarization Analysis - October 16, 2008

Description: In this note we will discuss the analysis of RHIC run 08 pC data that were collected during February 14 - March 10, 2008. An analysis method that is similar to Run 05 and Run 06 was adopted for Run 08 analysis (except few minor changes, which are described below). A detailed analysis note and a NIM article that describe the pC analysis procedure (for run 05 and run 06) can be found elsewhere. In brief, the analysis consists of calibrating the detectors, determining energy corrections ('dead lay… more

Run05 Proton Beam Polarization Measurements by pC-Polarimeter (ver. 1.1)

Description: The polarization of the proton beams [1, 2] at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC)[3] RHIC ring. The H-Jet polarimeter is located at the collision point allowing measurements of absolute normalization is provided by the hydrogen polarimeter, which measures over 1 {approx} 2 another measurement rather than measuring the absolute polarization. both beams. Two identical pC-polarimeters are equipped in the yellow and blue rings, where carbon ribbon target, providing fast feedback to beam ope… more

Heavy ion beam probe measurements of ECH method plasma in the Advanced Toroidal Facility

Description: A Heavy Ion Beam Probe (HIBP) has been installed on the Advanced Toroidal Facility (ATF) and used to measure the plasma potential and also make density fluctuation measurements during ECH plasmas. The initial results of the potential profile measurements are presented and related to spectroscopic rotation measurements using simple momentum balance equations. Also, a summary of the density fluctuation measurements made to date is given along with a brief comparison with similar HIBP measurements… more
