New results from DELCO. [Branching ratio, V-A theory]

Description: New results from the DELCO experiment at SPEAR are presented. New data and reanalysis give conclusive evidence for the tau heavy lepton with mass 1.777 + 0.005 - 0.009 GeV/c/sup 2/. Preliminary branching ratios for the tau are discussed, along with analysis of the electron momentum spectrum, favoring V-A. A preliminary look at D beta decay at psi''(3770) in terms of K and K*(890) is also discussed.

Development of Radhard VLSI electronics for SSC calorimeters

Description: A new program of development of integrated electronics for liquid argon calorimeters in the SSC detector environment is being started at Argonne National Laboratory. Scientists from Brookhaven National Laboratory and Vanderbilt University together with an industrial participants are expected to collaborate in this work. Interaction rates, segmentation, and the radiation environment dictate that front-end electronics of SSC calorimeters must be implemented in the form of highly integrated, radha… more

New particle searches at CDF

Description: One of the fundamental roles of a general purpose detector exploring, by means of increasing luminosity, higher and higher mass reach, is to search for new particles and exotic phenomena. This is a continuing effort for the CDF collaboration, and will report on several searches using about 20 pb{sup -1} from the 1992/93 run labelled {open_quotes}run 1a{close_quotes} and {approximately}50 of the 90 pb{sup -1} so far from the current {open_quotes}run 1b.{close_quotes} These are mostly preliminary… more

Hadron collider physics at Fermilab

Description: The hadron collider physics program at Fermilab, Tevatron-I, has recently provided considerable data samples to two high beta experiments as well as one low beta general purpose Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). A brief description of the Tevatron collider and the high beta experiments is followed by a discussion of hard scattering results from CDF. The prospects for growth in this exciting physics program are outlined. 20 refs., 29 figs., 1 tab.

Diboson production at the Tevatron

Description: The CDF and D{null} detectors at the Tevatron Collider are being used to measure {ital WW}, {ital WZ}, and {ital ZZ} production as well as {ital W}{sub {gamma}} and {ital Z}{sub {gamma}} production in order to study Trilinear Gauge Couplings. Improved limits on nonstandard coupling parameters are given and prospects for further improvement are discussed.

Digital electronics for the inclusion of shower max and preshower wire data in the CDF second-level trigger

Description: As part of the upgrade program at CDF, electronics has been built to bring the shower max (CES) and preshower (CPR) data into the trigger at level 2. After each crossing, 384 bits from shower max and 192 from the preshower wires are latched. Data from tracks are bussed to this module to provide the wire address and momentum which are then successively compared to the wire data in large look-up tables. Approximately 50 nanoseconds is required to determine a match, write the results in FIFO, and … more
