Role of Additive Manufacturing in Restructuring Supply Chains

Description: Additive manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D printing, has been attracting attention from practitioners as well as academicians with its continuous evolution from being used primarily for prototyping to now end-product production. Despite this technology's current and future potential, few studies indicate that AM has not been extensively used across all industries. This dissertation addresses knowledge gaps by providing theoretical and empirical support for adopting AM through three essay… more

Factors Influencing Continued Usage of Telemedicine Applications

Description: This study addresses the antecedents of individuals' disposition to use telemedicine applications, as well as the antecedents of their usage to provide insight into creating sustained usage over time. The theoretical framework of this research is Bhattacherjee's expectation-confirmation IS continuance model. By combining a series of key factors which may influence the initial and continued usage of telemedicine applications with key constructs of Bhattacherjee's IS continuance model, this study… more

Behavioral Transportation: The Role of Psychological, Cognitive, and Social Factors in Distracted Driving Behavior

Description: Logistics 4.0 suggests that increased automation can enhance performance, while Logistics 5.0 emphasizes the advantages of a modern workforce that combines humans and emerging technologies. However, the logistics industry needs a deeper understanding of human factors, an area that has been overlooked so far. To bridge this research gap, this dissertation investigated distracted driving behavior among individuals involved in transportation and logistics-based applications. This investigation emp… more

Self-aligned selective-emitter plasma-etchback and passivation process for screen-printed silicon solar cells

Description: We studied whether plasma-etching techniques can use screen printed gridlines as etch masks to form self-aligned, patterned-emitter profiles on multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) cells from Solarex Our initial results found a statistically significant improvement of about half an absolute percentage point m cell efficiency when the self-aligned emitter etchback was combined with a PECVD-nitride surface passivation treatment. Some additional improvement in bulk diffusion length was observed when a… more

Plasma Texturing of Silicon Solar Cells

Description: Surface texture promotes enhanced light absorption in Si solar cells. The quality of lower cost multicrystalline-silicon (mc-Si) has increased to the point that its cell performance is close to that of single c-Si cells, with the major difference resulting from the inability to texture mc-Si affordably. This has reduced the cost-per-watt advantage of mc-Si. Surface texturing aimed at enhanced absorption in Si has been historically obtained by creating multimicrometer-sized pyramids using anisot… more

Computer Virus Spread Containment Using Feedback Control.

Description: In this research, a security architecture based on the feedback control theory has been proposed. The first loop has been designed, developed and tested. The architecture proposes a feedback model with many controllers located at different stages of network. The controller at each stage gives feedback to the one at higher level and a decision about network security is taken. The first loop implemented in this thesis detects one important anomaly of virus attack, rate of outgoing connection. Tho… more

Self-aligned selective emitter plasma-etchback and passivation process for screen-printed silicon solar cells

Description: Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) is a cost-effective, performance-enhancing technique that can provide surface passivation and produce an effective antireflection coating layer at the same time. To gain the full benefit from improved emitter surface passivation on cell performance, it is necessary to tailor the emitter doping profile so that the emitter is lightly doped between the gridlines, but heavily doped under them. This selectively patterned emitter doping profile has hi… more
