Interim Report on Geologic Investigations of the U12e Tunnel System, Nevada Test Site, Nye County, Nevada

Description: From introduction: The maps and tables comprising this report are being transmitted at this time to provide interested users with a summary of the geology of the Ul2e tunnel system. The system was constructed to provide access to underground test sites. This report contains part of the geologic information obtained from investigations conducted by the U. S. Geological Survey to determine the geologic environment of the underground test sites. Results of geophysical and radiometric surveys, and physical properties are being studied. This work was done on behalf of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission.

Results of Exploration at the Old Leyden Coal Mine, Jefferson County, Colorado

Description: From abstract: Six diamond-core holes totaling 2, 201 feet were drilled by the U. S. Bureau of Mines under contract to the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission at the Old Leyden coal mine, Jefferson County, Colo. The holes were spotted on the basis of geologic mapping by the U. S. Geological survey and were drilled to explore the lateral and downward extent of a uranium-bearing coal and the associated carnotite deposits in the adjacent sandstone. The data obtained from the diamond-core holes helped to explain the geology and structural control of the deposit. The uranium is most abundant in a coal bed that in places has been brecciated by shearing, and then altered to a hard, dense, and silicified rock. The uraniferous coal is in the nearly vertical beds of the Laramie formation of Upper Cretaceous age,

Uranium Deposits on the Bulloch Group of Claims, Kane County, Utah

Description: From abstract: The Bulloch group of uranium claims are in T. 40 S., R. 9 we, Kane County, Utah. The past production has been 8.5 tons of submarginal ore submitted to the Marysvale purchasing depot of the Atomic Energy Commission in 1950; this shipment assayed 0.16 percent U308, Uranium is finely disseminated in clay, carbonaceous clay, carbonized wood fragments, iron-oxide concretions, petrified logs, sandstone, and conglomerates of the lower part of"the Dakota sandstone and upper part of the Summerville formation. Small quantities of carnotite, autunite, and torbernite are exposed in the conglomerate and sandstone on Lynn Nos. 2 and 3 claims.
